We all struggle with the ups and downs of life. My passion is working with children (ages 3 and older) and families to promote healthy and happy individuals and relationships. I hope to help my clients enhance their own individual strengths, better their relationships with others, and enjoy the most out of everyday interactions and experiences. Solution Focused and Attachment-Based therapy are the primary approaches I utilize in treating clients. As human beings, I believe we are wired to connect with others and that individual change and healing influences relational change and healing.

You look around and think to yourself, what happened? Each day you feel pulled further and further away from the life you thought was yours. Your morning thoughts go something like this: please let my child have a good day at school; who is this person sitting across the table from me and what happened to the one I said "I do" to? how am I ever going to get through this day? It is so tough to maintain strength, hope, and individuality when your family is in distress, your marriage feels like a failure, your teen is unrecognizable, or you're just completely out of energy. I get it! I'm here! Together we can figure this out.

Are you worried about your child? Struggling with meltdowns, crying, yelling, or even aggressive outbursts? As a parent it breaks your heart to see your child so overwhelmed by their feelings. You know they feel things very deeply, but the dramatic highs and lows are exhausting. You wish they could calm themselves down and cope with big feelings well. Seeing your child so upset makes you feel like a failure as a parent. You worry their behavior keeps them from making friends. You long for peace and harmony in your home. Every book or person has a different idea of how to help. You feel lost and confused on what to do next.

If you or your child are struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship problems, anger issues, low energy, attention problems or sleeplessness, you may be experiencing the responses of a nervous system that has become overly sensitized and reactive. Most people who enter therapy with these presenting problems are eager to experience some relief from these symptoms, and to be able to have more choice about their responses to life’s stressors. They also wish to be able to live their best lives-to experience joy, contentment and fulfillment.

Ever feel like you are running between one huge stressor to the next? Always feeling you need to put out one fire or another, without the best results? Others don't seem to have as hard a time managing everything like this. Between the moments of anxiety that alternates with bouts of downright panic, it feels like life is running you rather than how you thought it would be. Does a harsh internal dialogue from your past history not promise much hope? The toll this anxiety takes on sleep, relationships, and overall health is going to take a toll someday. There has to be a better way to deal with all of this.

No one ever told us that life is messy, complicated, and just plain overwhelming! Do you ever take a step back and look at your life and wonder, “What happened?” You thought you were ready to take on life's challenges but they are kicking your butt. You have ideas and dreams to start but you cannot quite find something that sticks. You may be starting to question and second guess yourself. So, the cycle continues while you feel exhausted and overwhelmed.

If you are anything like me when I was in my lowest place, I sought therapy. Nobody helped me identify the root, they only focused on the surface issues. It seemed to add more suffering on top of an already distraught situation. Suffering sucks! Life was made for living. I was tired of losing out because of what others had done to me or because I couldn’t get the solutions to my issues! If you are committed to your healing and recovery, I will take you through every step of the process to go from victim to victor! It is so exciting to be able to assist those who are tired of suffering and losing years and decades of their lives.

As your therapist, I will meet you where you are because you are the expert on your journey to compassionate mental health. My approach is holistic and person-centered; one that works collaboratively with individuals and families to establish lifestyle choices that support both their mind and body. When we are out of balance, our thought patterns can be immobilizing, which triggers self-doubt and indecision. I help my clients by working mindfully with their internal dialogues in an effort to engage their capacity for self-determination.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
