Are you trying to find your footing amidst anxiety, depression, or a major life transition (e.g. new parent, loss, career change)? Perhaps you’re feeling overwhelmed by stress, struggling with low self-esteem, or battling fears that seem too big to conquer alone. You have goals for yourself—maybe it’s finding peace, building confidence, or simply understanding who you are and what you want—but the path forward feels unclear, and the weight of your emotions is holding you back.

I have extensive experience working with depression, anxiety, and complex trauma using a holistic approach that includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), CBTi, Mindfulness, Bio-feedback, and more.
Currently accepting clients for our clinic only - These days, it can feel like life is moving too fast for us to keep up. This is made all the more challenging when we struggle with things like unhealthy relationships, intense negative feelings, poor self-image, or trauma. You may worry that getting help means enduring an uncomfortable process that may not result in notable change. Therapy does not have to be painful to be successful. It can be infused with moments of laughter and insight. It is about determining why we are stuck and how to create and maintain practical positive changes.

I am in this line of work because I firmly believe in the incredible strength of the human spirit and our ability to create desired change. My M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy afforded an elevated perspective of the human condition through the lens of larger influential systems. This framework shifted psychotherapy away from exclusively looking at the individual to looking at the family and other significant relationships to understand the context of a client's struggle as well as their potential for healing.

My counseling philosophy is rooted in the belief that the client is the expert in their own life and that each person has an innate ability to grow and change. Therapy is a process that can help you identify unresolved issues that impact your access to that ability. Before beginning my time as a counselor I worked with individuals and families as a teacher, and by serving on the Juvenile Justice Advisory Board and the Los Alamos New Mexico Board of Education. Through that work, I saw the impact that empathy and mental health professionals can make in the lives of individuals, families and communities.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
