I work with adults struggling with anxiety, depression, eating disorders/binge eating, and more.
We live in unprecedented times of political turmoil, climate crisis, and a widening wealth gap that can leave us exhausted and deeply concerned for the future. Your unique personal struggles occur within this context. You may find yourself anxious, depressed, or angry, perhaps even feeling guilty for seeking help for yourself when others are suffering worldwide. You may find yourself falling back into old and painful patterns even as you yearn for equanimity, balance, and a richer life. For over 25 years I’ve offered a non-judgmental and compassionate space for exploration of the dilemmas with which you struggle.

As a Christian and biblically based counselor, I aim to understand your affliction ( anxiety, depression, divorce, abuse, trauma, etc) with clinical expertise and a gospel centered focus.
Often times people come to counseling because of other people and relationships. Anxiety and depression usually are what is felt from destabilized relational circumstances. People come to counseling to process what has happened in their life or maybe what was done to them. People want emotional healing.

Life is sometimes complicated and issues can arise that are often times overwhelming. We all are striving to do our best and reaching out for support and help during difficult times is one of the most courageous things we can do...we are not meant to do this alone. Trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship and family issues along side the wounds we carry with us keep us from connecting in real authentic and healthy ways with each other and with ourselves. I believe you are the true expert of yourself and together we will walk this journey to healing, self-compassion, and safe connections.

I provide psychotherapy, consultation and referral services for adults, and play therapy for children. Anxiety and depression impact most people at some point in their lives. In my work with patients, I strive to listen deeply. In my experience, being truly listened to is rare, and helps a lot. Being with someone who strives to understand you without judgment increases a capacity to feel more love and satisfaction. I know that disturbing thoughts, feelings and behaviors have meaning. When these meanings can be understood, life starts to feel better. This work can help you to begin to heal, but it is a process.

Life can knock us off course in a lot of different ways, I’m here to help you find your own path to living the way you want to live. Anxiety, depression, burnout, along with feelings of isolation and low self-esteem can prevent us from living our lives the way we’d like to. When this happens, we tend to use whatever skills we have to cope but sometimes these tried and true methods end up falling short. Talking with a therapist can help shore up the skills we have and help to develop new skills to cope with the challenges of everyday life.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
