Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, or a life transition, I'm here to provide a safe and supportive space for you to work through this difficult time.
So you finally made the decision to start looking for a therapist! It can feel a little intimidating to start this journey, but you've taken the first step and I'm proud of you. Initially, many of my clients begin therapy feeling like things in their life just aren't quite right or they aren't where they'd like to be mentally. I'm here to help you explore those issues and make a plan for how to deal with them and become the person you want to be. It can be confusing and distressing to delve into the heart of the matter, but through therapy we can work through it together to reach your goals.

Hi, I'm Sara! I specialize in working with adults and adolescents who have a history of trauma, anxiety, and depression. I’m passionate about working with adults and adolescents who have experienced trauma. Dealing with trauma can leave you feeling overwhelmed, isolated, and uncertain about the future. If I could speak to every trauma survivor, I’d tell them that healing is possible. I understand that taking the leap into trauma-focused therapy can be scary and intimidating, so I collaborate with my clients to go at their own pace, helping them take control of their lives again using evidence-based tools.

There is a little voice in your head that keeps telling you that you cannot do it. You're not good enough. That voice continues to plague you with doubt, anxiety, confusion, and anger. You question: Who am I? What am I supposed to be doing? You are constantly trying to implement change but find yourself unmotivated, procrastinating, and feeling “lazy.” You try and it just feels too hard. The voice in the back of your head becomes louder and reminds you that changing is hard. You’re then left to spiral into a ball of anxiety or depression.

Are you tired of the mental struggle of constantly counting calories, pursuing weight loss, or hating your body? Maybe you have struggled with food and weight for so long, you think there is no way out! Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
