I help people feel better and improve their lives with psychotherapy and music therapy. If you are suffering from anxiety, depression, addiction or everyday stress with relationships, work or family. If you want a fluid and creative approach to therapy that helps you go deep to the core of your issues, I can help. I am particularly passionate about working with those who identify as LGBTQIA+, especially trans and GNC folx. In a world full of stigma, with so much pressure to conform to a heteronormative society, being trans or GNC can be an isolating and scary experience. I can help you on your journey to become your true self.

You are the author, the reader, and the subject of your life story. Balancing these roles is no simple task. Anxiety, fear, grief, and anger may overwhelm your sense of agency and fulfillment. You may find ways of coping that give temporary relief but lead to stagnation and loss of connection. You may encounter parts of yourself that misalign with who you think you are. Psychodynamic therapy creates a pathway to lasting change and self-discovery through meaningful insight. My approach is to observe and listen with gentle curiosity, and to foster sensitivity to the patterns and questions that emerge in the telling.

My specialties are depression and mood disorders, ADHD, anxiety, chaotic substance use, difficulty appreciating your body size/body neutrality, and complementary therapy for ketamine IV treatments.
What if you could walk around this planet with a deep sense (knowing) that everything about you, just as you are, is ok? Truly just fine? You can. Or maybe you're feeling stuck, needing help to galvanize your courage to make a change, to dare to live your very best life? A warm and supportive relationship with the right therapist will help to re-engage and energize your own existing internal resources, the parts of you that are already confident, calm, creative, courageous and compassionate. We can do this work together.

Through the integration of Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic work, and narrative therapy, we will heal the wounds that keep you trapped in anxious thoughts, depression, self-harm, eating disorders, sexual trauma, or relational conflict.
I am Deepa Saharia, an Indian-American therapist specializing in relational and narrative therapies. In our time together, we will piece together the intricate puzzle of your identities, patterns, and narratives. Throughout our therapeutic journey, we will explore the layers of your unique cultural landscape, so that you can accept yourself holistically. As a queer-identifying therapist, I help those who have hidden parts of themselves to reclaim their capacity to reconnect and realign with their true self.

I help adoptees, people living with trauma and people suffering with anxiety and panic move towards the life and relationships they want. I work with issues of identity, connection, belonging, and how trauma is held in the body, the way the body keeps the score. My goal is to help you find both symptom relief and deeper change. I also work with my associate Asha Kadir who works with all kinds of mental health issues, and particularly loves working with young adults, international students, immigrants and refugees. In addition, I work with people on their sleep issues with CBT-I.

I am a psychotherapist with over 18 years of clinical experience. I see individuals from diverse backgrounds, including, but not limited to, Asian Americans who deal with various internal and external conflicts. Facing difficult life transitions may result in depression, anxiety, and feeling stuck. I provide a secure space where individuals can search for self-understanding, gain a capacity to bear loneliness and uncertainty of life, and deepen a sense of relatedness. Through dyadic processes, I help them work through early attachment patterns and intergenerational traumas that may reoccur and complicate current life situations.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
