Mental health is not about stopping distressing emotions - many of the problems I encounter in my work arise, in part, due to people trying to do that very thing. Rather, mental health is about managing these emotions. When an emotional reaction seems disproportionate to the situation, it's also about examining how our thoughts are influencing how we feel. It's about preventing our emotional state from impairing functioning in any facet of life. And it's about living in accordance with one's own values and principles. Finally, it's about applying skills over a lifetime. I'll teach you these skills so that you no longer need me.
I specialize in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) with a mindfulness component. CBT is a short-term, evidence-based approach to psychotherapy. "Evidence-based" means that clinical research has proven this approach to be effective. I receive ongoing training and supervision from the Beck Institute, the birthplace of CBT. I specialize in anxiety.
If we have a consultation call, I'll let you know if I think I can help with the specific difficulties you're having. If Idoubt about my ability to help, then I'll help you find someone who can. Finding a therapist is challenging and time-consuming, as is becoming comfortable disclosing personal details. I'll do my best to ensure that you only do it once.
