I am passionate about the resiliency of the human spirit in healing from trauma, forming and healing relationships, & finding our way through life’s transitions. I view therapy as a tool to create a safe space to show up authentically and work toward living the life you seek. I work with children (8 & up), teens, adults, & couples who are addressing trauma, issues of identity or self-esteem, anxiety, recovering from narcissistic, sexual, or intimate partner abuse, having difficulty with dating/relationships, & working through divorce, separation, co-parenting, & blending families. Otis, my office dog, usually joins me for sessions.

My focus includes trauma, anxiety, betrayal, narcissistic behavior, domestic abuse, and spiritual abuse.
You're doing your best, but it can sometimes feel like your efforts are never quite enough. You often prioritize others over yourself, even if it means neglecting your own well-being. Your commitment to bringing happiness to others may be leading to anxiety as you grapple with feelings of betrayal and confusion. It seems like you've lost sight of your own needs. I've been there, and I can relate to what you're going through. I believe you deserve to have a voice, and that together we can untangle the chaos as we work towards finding clarity.

Are you in your 20s or 30s and concerned about your mental health? Maybe you have been feeling anxious or depressed and just want to feel better. Perhaps it has reached point where people in your life are suggesting that you talk to someone. Contrary to popular belief, young adulthood can be a difficult phase of life. Many struggle with finding a healthy relationship, a community of friends and a meaningful career path. Therapy can be helpful in reducing painful feelings and overcoming obstacles towards a more fulfilling life.

Therapy can be a very scary process. From having to call one to having your first meeting and then doing the work. This is especially so when you are facing difficult times or remembering events that you've struggled with for some time and realize that this is what is holding us back to our fullest expression. In our work together, I will bring nurturance and support as we explore the underlying causes to what brings you distress. I will provide you with a safe, non-judgmental environment to explore freely.

With families, I use a systems approach to help the family interact and communicate their needs.

People are defined by their strengths, not their difficulties. Each of us has the power to change. With my warm and interactive style, I offer a nonjudgmental and safe setting where you can feel comfortable sharing feelings and frustrations. I emphasize helping you make concrete, positive changes in your day to day life. This happens by gaining deeper self-knowledge and altering patterns of thoughts and behaviors that are preventing you from achieving greater personal fulfillment. At a pace that is comfortable for you, I will help you identify major issues that are holding you back, and make real, tangible progress.

Too often it feels like we "should" do something - or feel pressured by thoughts of what others think of us. Carrying these burdens can feel like abandonment, sadness, worry, shame or being generally overwhelmed. My goal is to help stop this cycle by developing a deeper understanding of your own true feelings. Together, we can build your sense of confidence so you can speak your own truth - ultimately, creating the kind of life, career and relationships you want.

Sharing and understanding parts of ourselves or our internal struggles can be scary, vulnerable and transformative. As humans our lives shift frequently, and having support through some of those life adjustments can be invaluable to finding one's purpose or meaning. In the sacredness of the therapeutic relationship, I hope to offer a safe environment to explore your personal values, culture and discover how to be your most authentic self. I try to use skills grounded in research and evidence-based practices to help people cultivate the self-compassion, self-awareness and courage needed to do this work.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
