I have a Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling, from Amberton University, and also attended Abilene Christian University and New York University. I am a Licensed Psychologist specializing in scientifically tested treatments for children and adolescents with challenging behaviors (tantrums, risky behaviors, school issues), difficulty with mood, anxiety disorders, and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I provide Autism evaluations using gold-standard assessments (ADOS-2), as well as comprehensive psychological, psycho-educational, and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) evaluations.

I specialize in substance use disorders, PTSD, trauma, chronic illness, and depression/anxiety. I have worked in outpatient treatment centers such as IOPs and MAT programs, as well as individuals with co-occurring substance use and HIV+. I am an LGBTQ+ ally.

Beginning the journey of therapy or picking up where you left off is a courageous step towards understanding and bettering oneself. Counseling is a collaborative process where we will work together to achieve goals and create the best versions of ourselves. I enjoy working with people of all ages but especially children. It is my passion to not only advocate for counseling but to ensure that the best resources are given and altered specifically to them. I understand that every person has their own story, background, and life path. I like to use people’s differences and embrace who they are with positive therapeutic methods.

I value walking with those struggling with depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and PTSD. I have seen the crippling effects of feeling trapped within oneself and not knowing how to become free of this despair or to even have a normal day. I feel with those going through burnout and life transitions, because dealing with the stress that comes is not a simple mental acknowledgement that life will now be different. I am passionate about empowering couples and families in strengthening their marriages and healing broken relationships. I have a strong background of working with internationals and overseas families.

As human beings, we behave according to what has worked for us in the past. Such behaviors may not necessarily be healthy or positive ones, and that is what brings you in today. This desire to work and get better at doing life in a more positive and healthier manner. Yes, we may encounter ourselves revolving around unhealthy coping skills and not very strong boundaries with those around us which may be what makes us feel in greater need of connection and positivity in our lives. If there is anything that life has taught us, is that we are capable of change, of rebuilding of shaping ourselves into that person you have always desired.

I work from a strengths and integrated perspective focusing on the whole person: mind, body and spirit. I view therapy as a sacred journey in which you and I will work collaboratively to identify what goals you want to achieve through the therapy process. I often use humor to connect with my clients. I will provide you with a compassionate, supportive, and non-judgemental safe space in which we can openly talk about whatever brings you to my office.

Mercedes Dantzler is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with over 4 years of experience. She works well with teen boys with addressing anger management and ADHD. Mercedes is passionate with working with adult male and females who have difficulty with managing their anxiety, depression, relationship issues, social skills and trauma. She wants to ensure everyone is a healthy version of themselves. Mercedes completed her Master's degree in Counseling Psychology at Alabama A&M University. She has worked at multiple substance abuse facilities with adults and teenagers assisting with creating the change they desperately seeked.
