Hi! My name is Leslie. My passion for helping others comes from my near fatal car wreck in 1997 that left me paralyzed from the waist down. I’m a Certified Trauma Professional. I am a Phase 3 Brainspotting Practitioner and use Polyvagal Theory framework. We have to rewire the brain and reteach the nervous system cues of safety for emotional regulation

If you're considering therapy you may be struggling with a major life change or a relationship issue; possibly depression, anxiety or substance abuse has been sabotaging your life. I'd use my first session with you to do an assessment, find out what you want to focus on and let you know how I think I can help. Sometimes clients are focused on a particular problem or decision, other clients want help identifying and combating old assumptions or unhealthy patterns of behavior that may be getting in their way.

I believe the job of therapy is to challenge, empower and support people so the highest quality of life is possible. The term "quality of life" is often used to describe the goal for "end of life" issues. The goal can be the highest quality of life for anyone at any age. Living in the crisis of extreme emotional pain, instability, addiction or extended grief is perhaps the lowest quality of life. To some, this state may seem like "all there is" or "normal" based on their past experience. Therapy can teach a new way to live.

You deserve to be loved and to feel like you belong. No matter your age, you need and deserve emotional and physical safety and security. When your needs are not met you may feel anxious, depressed, hopeless and dis-empowered. You may act out in self-destructive or unhelpful ways or may find yourself in unfulfilling relationships. Your needs matter. You are worthy of love, belonging, safety, security and success. If it doesn't feel that way to you, I want to help you discover your inherent value and worth.

During life's challenges, you may find yourself overwhelmed, anxious, or emotionally detached. It may seem like you're stuck- not knowing how to handle your intense emotions or, rather, feeling completely numb. Perhaps, while attending to the needs of others, you've lost touch with your own identity. Or maybe you have experienced something so challenging that it left you feeling disconnected and misunderstood. The relentless routine and to-do lists may give you the impression that change will never happen.

Coming to therapy is such a personal decision. My goal is to help my clients feel safe and secure enough in our therapeutic relationship to allow for open and honest communication throughout our time together. Building self-reliance is a goal for all and I will help my clients to work towards achieving this goal. Each person's needs are not the same, and I will work to find what your specific needs are to enable progress through each session.

Hey, your life is fine. Others have it worse, right? No one needs to know that you’re struggling. In fact, the image of yourself that the world sees is not really you, so would they truly care if you did share how you’re doing? You can’t ignore that gut feeling that the real you is too messy and strange for others to like or even understand. You hide your true feelings until it all becomes overwhelming and you feel out of control again. Maybe you can’t stop crying or you pull away from everyone and live on autopilot. Your old way of handling things is not cutting it, and maybe the frustration has you hoping for something better.

I get it! Everything feels “off.” You can’t quite put your finger on it. It feels like if you say it out loud, you’ll seem crazy or unstable. Staying quiet when you’re struggling leaves you feeling stuck, but you don’t have to be. That’s what I’m here for. Let’s sort through your problems, thoughts, questions, and wonderings together and find our way to feeling well.

I work with individual adults, couples, families, and children (ages 3 - 10) and together we curate helpful ways to cope with everyday life and relationships. I encourage clients to focus on their inner strengths and make choices that bring them closer to their goals. I believe our thoughts, behaviors, values, and beliefs begin in our early years within our families of origin. These years, along with the life experiences and challenges we encounter along the way serve to shape us. Uncovering how these thoughts and behaviors impact our daily life is an important step toward healing, change, and freedom.

Many people struggle with uncertainty in handling new situations or resolving old problems. You may be experiencing difficulties in your relationships with family, friends, bosses and coworkers, or struggling with long-term issues related to difficulty achieving personal goals, grief and loss, depression and anxiety, or other issues. Past ways of dealing with problems may no longer be working and/or have become self-defeating. Please contact me to discuss how psychotherapy might help you make different choices as you deal with current life stresses, or long-standing problems.

It can sometimes feel like you're experiencing life on repeat, and all that you're wanting is to feel some relief from your current situation. However, when you're on the ride, it feels like you may not have control to slow down or find the best solutions to your situation. Reaching out can feel scary or you may be indecisive about what is the best decision(s) are to make.

I believe symptoms carry messages to us from deep within, much like dreams do. Symptoms and problems can be made very useful, if you know how to look and listen. My job is to help you read and make sense of what ails you. Psychotherapy with me is about learning your way around your own psyche. It's for becoming as fully yourself as possible. It's for cultivating soul. My hope is to offer direction and stability in an increasingly disorienting world. I hope working together we can renew your faith in life having meaning and purpose.

A person is a person, no matter how small.- Dr. Seuss Speaking your truth is difficult when your first language is play, or you find it difficult to share your thoughts because of anxiety or depression. Children struggle with a myriad of concerns in our technologically-driven age, whereby, their first impressions stem from influences seen on television, social media, and experiences from within their home or school environments. Moreover, adjusting to life-changing events is hard for children who need to feel supported on their journey through life.

At some point in our lives we might feel overwhelmed, stuck, as if the life has placed a roadblock on our way. Other times we created our own roadblocks. We are always busy, always running, often take care of others, do what others want us to do, and neglect our own fundamental needs of happiness, belonging, fulfillment, and joy. It is so important to stop for a moment and to create your own safe space for internal search and reflection that would lead to finding YOUR OWN answers and solutions. As a therapist, I offer such space for you.

Are you facing the challenges of overwhelming life circumstances? Having trouble managing trauma and anxiety? Often, the thinking patterns we have accumulated throughout our lives are operating below the surface and become the very things that get in the way of the life for which we long. We may not be able to change the situations that happen to us but we can change how we perceive them and how we respond. With years of experience my passion is working with individuals, children/teens and families to develop a plan to create a happy, healthy, thriving life.

Welcome to your first step towards helping yourself to live the life you've been wanting. I believe what Carl Rogers once stated "a counselor is not an expert but a mirror for clients to see themselves." A counselor's acceptance and reflection of feelings creates a level of safety for deeper exploration and an opportunity for clients to increase their self-awareness which leads to positive action. I encourage my clients to be mindful of thoughts and feelings. By practicing mindfulness you are able to be focused and centered in your life.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
