I'm a first-generation South Asian-American art therapist & counselor who holds space for creative expression and healing through a collaborative, anti-oppressive, and affirming lens. I work to provide a safe, nonjudgmental, and comforting space for my clients. In this space, we can explore feelings, tap into curiosities, ask questions, share experiences, laugh, cry, and celebrate successes, big or small. Although therapy is an experience that the client and therapist embark on together, I believe that each client has the ability to harness their strengths to find a path that gives them meaning and purpose.

I am trained as both a psychotherapist and an art therapist.
Everyone experiences times when difficulties in love and work or feelings of sadness and anxiety are too difficult to navigate alone. Together, we will explore what is causing you to feel stuck, depressed or alienated in your life. Therapy is a way to uncover the hidden barriers and self-defeating patterns that prevent you from creating the change you want. It can be daunting to begin therapy, but the process will lead to a life lived with greater satisfaction and meaning.

Addressing mental health concerns isn’t easy. It can be nerve-wrecking and anxiety-provoking but it also takes a lot of courage to advocate for yourself. As a trained art therapist, my goal is to assist you in achieving emotional balance by providing you with the option of exploring therapy through a different lens. At times, we can lose sight of the options available when seeking support. I’m here to help you harness your strengths. I’m here to help you harness your strengths. When you can experience the ability to regulate and control your emotions, you’ll find yourself feeling empowered.

A lot of my clients (and arguably people in general) need to feel understood. In a couple's environment especially, each individual usually wants to feel seen by their partner. Sometimes it's hard for that to happen though, especially when both parties are feeling hurt. A lot of the times, clients' goals are then to communicate better, which makes sense; if communication was articulated and received my clearly then we'd understand each other more and maybe run into less issues. I come in and try to help my clients feel understood by others, but also I try to help them feel understood by themselves too.

The first step to making a change is identifying that there is a problem. Each person is so vastly different, there is no one-size fits all approach to therapy. When working with clients, I integrate tenants from various therapeutic approaches to fit the individuals needs that day. Whether it’s anxiety, depression, a significant life-event or change, the right therapist can make all the difference.

I find myself most aligned with my calling when I am able to create spaces of healing alongside individuals from all walks of life. I assist in defining who clients aspire to be rather than what is expected of them. Together we will explore ways to increase self esteem, self respect, and self worth. I tailor my therapeutic approach to the individual needs of each client. I provide a structure to guide individuals to access self love. Through this process we will work to unpack each client's unique narrative; In order to then reauthor their understanding of who they are.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
