Counseling is a relationship between the client and counselor, working together to make positive changes to what may not be working in relationships and their daily lives. The goal of this relationship is to assess patterns of behavior and find new ways of interacting. I have over 10+ years experience with couples, families, and individuals in a therapeutic setting. I am currently doing EMDR therapy.

How often do you get to share what's on your mind without fears of judgment, damage to relationships, or raising concern? For many, therapy offers freedom from these fears for the first time in their life. Whether you're having concerns about work, school, relationships, or the state of the world, we can process them together. I believe that you are the expert of your own story. For many of us in the LGBTQIA+, Kink, and CNM communities, there is an understandable need to find affirming care. In my practice, I strongly believe you shouldn't have to explain the basics of your identities to your therapist.

Most of us, at some point in life, face challenges that are too overwhelming, stressful, painful, or challenging to handle on our own. Counseling is a wonderful way to get support, guidance, knowledge, and perspective around these issues, and it can make the difference between struggling and thriving. As a counselor, my goal is to help people through their challenges and struggles and get to a place where they are happier, healthier, and stronger. I provide a warm and welcoming presence where you will feel comfortable addressing your struggles, and together we can create solutions you can use to live a happier and healthier life.

Don't settle for a generic drug and alcohol therapist. You deserve help that actually helps you feel happy again. (And, that's in-network with your insurance).

Navigating the complexities of adolescence and young adulthood can be challenging, especially when executive functioning skills feel like a barrier to success. For over 20 years, I've been dedicated to empowering teens and young adults to overcome these obstacles and thrive. I specialize in providing tailored support, both in person and through convenient telehealth sessions as they navigate the transition to or back from college. While my experience had me focused on supporting adolescents and young adults, my personal journey has also ignited a passion for working with individuals in midlife and working through this next chapter

As a therapist I believe that each person needs something different. Sometimes someone needs someone to talk to and bounce ideas off, some need concrete steps to improve parts of their life, others need to explore their past and connect it to their present. I can help people learn coping skills, challenging negative or self-destructive thoughts, and learn what their triggers are and why they have them. I encourage mindfulness practices and self-acceptance. I work with a lot of people with anxiety, depression, and relationship issues often caused by anxiety or other issues. I am an EMDR certified counselor for those with trauma.

I know that reaching out for support can feel both hopeful and intimidating. Beginning therapy is an act of courage, and together we can create a safe space where your voice, story, and goals matter. I have experience working with young children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. I’m especially interested in working with student athletes, individuals navigating anxiety, identity development, and life transitions.

You won't hear "It's going to be okay, I know how you feel, you will get over it" when you come to me. I understand that the hour you pay for is your hour and you will get the chance to say whatever it is that you want to say guilt-free. Saying things out loud to a trained listener will help you understand your world view in a different way. In turn, you will develop insight and coping skills.

Let's start with honoring life... Due to my extensive background and years of professional experience, I am comfortable working with children, youth, adults, couples, and families. I started my training/experience with children and continued servicing all ages. I have worked in many venues of service: mental health, medical, educational, hospice, trauma, supervisory, administrative... providing services to people facing situations that are unknown or a challenge to them. Depression, anxiety (and all the features associated with these two diagnostics), as well as relational and other life issues, are areas that I service.

You’re a parent doing your best every day. You’re juggling so many responsibilities, all while trying to be “good enough” for your child or teen. Sometimes, being a parent is full of joy, but other times it’s overwhelming, frustrating, and you’re left feeling hopeless and unsure of what you’re supposed to be doing. Raising a child or teen can feel like a rollercoaster. You're managing their big emotions, trying to keep them focused on their goals, guiding them toward becoming responsible adults, and helping them navigate social challenges. You’re watching them discover their unique personality and allowing them the space to blossom.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
