I have a particular interest in providing couples' counseling to parents that are struggling with parenting issues.
My goal is to create an atmosphere where every person that enters my office feels it is a safe place to learn and grow. I honor the unique strengths that each individual already possesses while challenging them to grow and develop in other areas. While I encourage people to stretch beyond their comfort zones, I respect and accept each person where they are at in their growth process. I have 19 years experience as a Psychotherapist. I work with children, adolescents, adults, and couples. When working with children, I feel it is important to become a team with their parents.

I enjoy working with those who have concerns regarding parenting, perinatal/postnatal issues, life transitions, relationship issues, grief and loss, attachment concerns, and processing difficult life experiences.
Welcome! I'm so glad you're here! My priority as a therapist is to create a trusting, safe, authentic relationship from which to explore the concerns and difficulties you may be having. I value and honor the many identities and life experiences that clients bring with them into our therapeutic space and believe that each individual's strengths and challenges are influenced by the systems around them. Ultimately, it is through safe relationships, that see us for everything we are, that we have the opportunity to create change within ourselves.

I am also a Certified Youth Mental Health Specialist and use this in parenting sessions.
My main focus is on the importance of emotional wellbeing. I believe that everyone experiences difficulties in their lives and see the counseling office as a space for clients to express and normalize difficult feelings in a safe environment. I believe that people have all of the components for a happy and healthy life but sometimes need help processing and navigating through their feelings and experiences to learn new and more effective ways to cope. I operate through the Polyvagal Theory lens to assess emotional regulation and work to stabilize and co-regulate clients as this is essential to healing.

Have you been in survival mode for too long? Are you working so hard to reparent yourself while simultaneously parenting small people with big needs? Or are you parenting a child with big behaviors or emotions? Parenting a child who is struggling is stressful and isolating. Maybe the thought "this isn't what (or the child) I was expecting" has even run through your mind. Whether you planned for pregnancy, fostering or adopting, you likely dreamed of love, connection and joy. And now you are not sure how to get there from here. Or if it is even possible. It really is! There is always room for hope.

I completed a certificate program in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International and my clinical work focuses on the transition to motherhood and fulfilling parenting.
Motherhood just got a lot harder during this unprecedented time of crisis. Anxiety looms as we sit with the uncertainty about when COVID-19 limitations will end. If you are pregnant or just had a baby there is an extra layer of concern about what you can do during your precious postpartum time. If you are managing schooling at home, or have a child with high needs, you're probably feeling burnt out. Taking care of yourself through talk-therapy can help you ride out this turbulent time.

If you are struggling in an important relationship, whether with your partner, child, parent, sibling, or friend, or feel deeply lonely, anxious, sad, or self-doubting, therapy can be an important step towards growth and healing. I think of therapy as an opportunity not only to seek support, but also to build a collaborative working relationship within which a deeper understanding of your hopes and fears enables you to make significant change.

Is something out of balance in your life? With yourself? Your child? Your effectiveness as a parent? Your relationships? Life circumstances/transitions? If it is, please know that my way of practicing is to non-judgmentally understand what is going on--what area of your life is being negatively impacted. Then we can collaboratively work on establishing goals and a treatment plan. Whether it is Anxiety, OCD, Autism (including very young kids with autism), Depression/Bipolar, Behavior Problems, ADHD, Trauma or Insomnia, there is a way for you or your child to feel more in control, grounded and balanced.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
