Welcome! Engaging in therapy requires a level of vulnerability that is very difficult for folks to engage in right away, and trust is an important aspect that needs to be earned over time. This is why I want to create an environment that is safe, non-judgmental, and anti-oppressive for anyone looking for a space to talk about their struggles. I don't believe in a "one size fits all" approach to therapy and recognize that each person comes from a unique background with their own experiences. My goal is to help be a support for you through your healing journey where we can work together to help you grow and thrive.

Using an integrative, strength-based approach, I draw on a rich variety of practices to work collaboratively with my clients to meet their individual needs and goals. I believe that we all face life challenges with a strong need for connection and acceptance. It can often feel like we are alone and vulnerable in the search for well being lacking a safe anchor of support. Therapy can provide an opportunity to develop a solid sense of self-acceptance in identifying and actualizing our individual gifts and inherent worthiness to live our fullest, most rewarding lives.

Immediate openings! Are you tired of living in survival mode? You may look like you’re holding it all together, but inside you feel overwhelmed, anxious, and stretched thin. Deep down, you want clarity and the freedom from feeling stuck—you’re just not sure how to get there. Real change doesn't come from pushing harder, but from understanding the parts of you that learned to cope. If you’re a woman carrying the mental load, a mom who loves deeply but feels exhausted, or a college student overwhelmed by pressure—you don’t have to do it alone. Healing is possible.

Michelle believes in the foundational tenet of Dialectical Behavior Therapy that states we are all doing our best, and we can also be doing better. She allows this to lead her practice as she acknowledges the stigma related to mental health treatment, our inherent discomfort of change, and the impact our environment and genetics have on our thoughts, emotions, and behavior. All this considered, Michelle approaches each individual from a place of non-judgment and understanding to allow positive change to happen.

Well-being looks different for every person, so my approach to working with clients is focused on identifying what living a full and meaningful life might uniquely look like for you and partnering with you to get there together. This means embracing unique and personalized approaches to self-care and coping with life’s stressors, rather than listening to what media, culture, or other people with authority might tell us this should look like.

Many of the people I work with are used to being the strong one—capable, thoughtful, and deeply attuned to others. From the outside, things may look “together,” but internally, you might feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or caught in patterns in your relationships that you don’t fully understand. You may find yourself taking on a lot—emotionally or practically—while struggling to name your own needs, or feeling responsible for keeping things steady in your relationships.

My ideal clients are children, adolescents, and young adults who feel overwhelmed by big emotions, anxiety, grief, or life transitions. For parents, you may be noticing meltdowns, shutdowns, irritability, school struggles, or reactions that seem bigger than the situation. Often kids don’t yet have the words for what they feel, and behavior becomes the communication. Those navigating stress, transgenerational issues, grief, and the pressure of holding everything together. With me, you don’t have to be the "strong one" or "the fixer". Every version of you is welcome, even the you that doesn’t know what you’re feeling just quite yet.

Deciding to engage in therapy can be a daunting task and I believe the connection to your therapist is extremely important. With me you'll experience a safe, secure, and non-judgemental environment in which to explore oneself on a much deeper level. I come from a psychodynamic and attachment lenes in which to explore oneself deeper and make connections to current behaviors. Through increased awareness and understanding of ourselves, I believe we can gain the power necessary to change that to which is causing difficulties in our lives. I have a passion for helping others gain greater awareness and insight into their lives.

Therapy can be intimidating, unnerving, and worth it. If you know it's time to make the changes in your life that you keep putting off, I would love to help you put that plan into place. I help individuals identify and overcome negative cycles that the find themselves in that leave them feeling hopeless and unsure of how to change. We don't always have control of what we experience in life, but we do have the ability to heal and learn how to find joy. I specialize in working with individuals who are overcoming eating disorders, anxiety, depression, life transitions and attachment trauma/wounds.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
