My ideal client may be feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, family conflict, or the lasting impact of trauma. They’re looking for a supportive, non-judgmental space where they can talk openly, better understand their experiences, and begin making meaningful changes in their lives. Many want to feel more confident, improve their relationships, and develop healthier ways to cope with stress and difficult emotions. They may not have everything figured out yet, but they’re open to the process and ready to take steps toward growth, healing, and a more fulfilling life.

Starting therapy is a big step. You don’t need to have everything figured out to begin! If you’re feeling disconnected from yourself or from the people in your life, or questioning your identity, values, or direction, therapy is a place to explore this at your own pace. You might feel stuck, unsure how you got here, or like you’ve been living by expectations that no longer fit who you are. You are not alone. My hope is that therapy will feel like a space where you can breathe, feel heard, and begin reconnecting with the with the parts of yourself that matter most to you.

My ideal client is someone who has walked through chaos and is longing for quieter ground. They’re untangling old patterns—trauma, anxiety, people-pleasing, tangled relationships—and searching for a place to breathe again. They may not know exactly what they need, only that something inside them is ready for softness, clarity, and change. They value honesty, warmth, and a therapist who can hold both their heaviness and their hope. They come to me ready to learn the language of their nervous system, to slow down, to unlearn, to rise. My ideal client would be struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, grief or post partum issues. They would need help learning how to cope and tools they can use to manage their emotions and navigate life more effectively. Their goals should be unique and tailored to their specific struggles but ultimately they want to work toward enhancing their quality of life. They would want a therapist who is going to be compassionate and understanding while also being able to guide them to follow through to ensure we are meeting their goals.

I specialize in conducting therapy and psychological evaluations with adults having mental health, legal, and substance abuse problems. I help individuals change unhelpful thinking patterns by recognizing inflexible demands they place on themselves, the world, and others. People come to therapy with wounds. And it is in these wounds that the light shines through. In therapy, we learn we need not fear the places where one feels stuck, overwhelmed or enslaved. My approach to psychotherapy is holistic, integrating mind body and spirit, through a variety of modalities. My diverse background has deepened my understanding for those wrestling with existential, spiritual and religious belonging, life transitions, sexual orientation, relational challenges and childhood traumas.

I work with individuals who are experiencing depression, anxiety—including social and performance anxiety—and challenges related to life transitions. In our initial sessions, we will focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship while exploring the thoughts, emotions, and patterns contributing to your concerns. Together, we will develop practical strategies and goals to support meaningful change. I love to help people unpack the questions "why am I the way that I am" and "how can I become my true self."

I coach women (and sometimes men) to value themselves as much as they value others. My clients have had the following characteristics. See if any of these describe you. They want to be liked by everyone. They become anxious when others are angry with them. They avoid conflict at any cost. They judge themselves as never good enough. They are afraid to express differing points of view. They value the opinions others hold of them, more than they value their own self-approval.

I am especially passionate about helping individuals move from self-criticism towards self-compassion. So many people come to therapy burned by shame in the belief that they are broken. My goal is to help them reconnect with their inherent worth and to guide them gently toward a more loving relationship with themselves.

With over 20 years in the mental health field, I am passionate about working together to manage struggles with formulating effective coping skills, reshaping patterns that have not been healthy or helpful, processing thru a life change or event that has left you feeling stuck and confused, and assisting with sorting thru difficult feelings and emotions. I believes that there is no better time than the present and that every moment is a gift. We are not defined by one moment in our lives. Sometimes, often due to difficult events and challenges, we lose sight of our strengths and our places of empowerment.

Life can leave us with strain and heartache which can be overwhelming. At times, we normalize the impact these events have on us and rather than seek help, we suffer in silence. It can be terrifying to leave behind the familiar, even if change can lead to happiness and peace. Therapy provides a safe place to take the steps towards lasting change.

If you’ve made it this far, you’ve already taken a courageous step. Therapy can be a place to understand the past in ways that open new possibilities for the future. Many of us find ourselves repeating old patterns — in relationships, feelings, or self-defeating behaviors — without fully realizing why. These “symptoms” are not random. They are messages from within, signals that something in us is asking for attention, healing, and care.In therapy, we often discover that overwhelming experiences from earlier in life had to be pushed aside or “split off” in order to survive.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
