Everyone at times feels overwhelmed by life. The onset of a serious illness, the death of a loved one, and other events may have a profound impact on our daily lives. Traumatic events, whether expected or not, may affect our relationships with our spouse, family members, and others. They may also result in difficulties functioning at work and other aspects of our lives. Even welcomed life transitions, such as getting married, becoming a parent, embarking on a new career, or adapting to a new locality often bring surprising challenges that, if unmet, may accumulate causing disruptions in our lives.

The ideal client may struggle with depression, anxiety, ocd, bi-polar, and self-esteem. She/He has a need to regain control of their emotions and thoughts, in order to enjoy life. Our thoughts and feelings can be strong and hinder us from progressing forward but with therapy we learn to catch our thoughts, check our thoughts, and correct our thoughts to allow us to move forward and upward.

No one gets to where they are by accident. Sometimes life is hard and we need help to make it through and figure things out. I meet people where they are and guide them toward the life they want to live. I promote acceptance and non-judgment and help clients find this within themselves. I assist clients in working through their trauma, navigating relationship issues, gaining insight, problem-solving, and deciding how they want to show up in their lives. If you are looking for someone genuine, honest, and who will challenge you to be the best version of yourself, I'm your counselor. I work with teens, adults, and couples.

My ideal client is a couple or family facing a major transition—such as a new baby, a move, a blended family, or a loss. They feel uncertain, overwhelmed, or disconnected. They need a space to process emotions, improve communication, and redefine roles. Their goals include adjusting to change, strengthening relationships, and creating a shared narrative that fosters resilience. They seek support because they value their bond and want to navigate this shift with clarity and confidence.

Life presents us with many challenges--perhaps you grieve a broken relationship, worry about a medical diagnosis, or doubt your abilities. I can help you sift through your experience on your way toward a more joyful, meaningful life. The burdens of stress, frustration, shame, guilt, and anger might make you feel really terrible now-- and you might feel very alone, unable to talk freely with those around you. Together we can pay close attention to what's bothering you and to what you need, so that you begin to develop a healthier self and more loving, fulfilling relationships.

I specialize in conducting therapy and psychological evaluations with adults having mental health, legal, and substance abuse problems. I help individuals change unhelpful thinking patterns by recognizing inflexible demands they place on themselves, the world, and others. My therapeutic style helps individuals learn how to dispute beliefs causing negative emotional and behavioral consequences. Clients learn they have the ability to change and control their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, with the underlying goal of helping the client become his or her own therapist.

I coach women (and sometimes men) to value themselves as much as they value others. My clients have had the following characteristics. See if any of these describe you. They want to be liked by everyone. They become anxious when others are angry with them. They avoid conflict at any cost. They judge themselves as never good enough. They are afraid to express differing points of view. They value the opinions others hold of them, more than they value their own self-approval.

Over the years and after receiving thousands of initial calls and emails from clients, it is clear that many are unsure of what they need or where to go. We find great pleasure in helping clients navigate this process. As a group practice we are able to provide services for a variety of needs: anxiety, addictions, pain management, depression, relationship issues, psychological testing, individual, life transitions and even helping clients who just want to live their best life! We stand out in our efforts to make this process as smooth as possible. Many providers boast about their training in a particular treatment approach (and this is important) but research suggests that the interventions are only part of the story. The fit between client and clinician, the wellbeing of the clinician, the ease of access and the experience of the treatment process matter as much, and sometimes more, than the particular treatment model used. Pillars of Wellness was founded with the hope of ensuring an ideal client-clinician fit and providing both clients and clinicians with a positive experience. We let our clinicians excel at their craft by giving them the space to create their ideal practice.

Life can leave us with strain and heartache which can be overwhelming. At times, we normalize the impact these events have on us and rather than seek help, we suffer in silence. It can be terrifying to leave behind the familiar, even if change can lead to happiness and peace. Therapy provides a safe place to take the steps towards lasting change.

My approach to psychotherapy is holistic, integrating mind body and spirit, through a variety of modalities. Life continually bring forth new possibilities. People come to therapy with wounds. And it is in these wounds that the light shines in. In therapy, we learn we need not fear the places where one feels stuck, overwhelmed or enslaved. My diverse background has deepened my understanding for those wrestling with existential, spiritual and religious belonging, life transitions, sexual orientation, relational challenges and childhood traumas.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
