I am passionate about issues related to prenatal/postnatal stages, women’s issues, interpersonal challenges, anxiety, depression, the acculturation process, grief and loss, and social justice.
I deeply believe in helping individuals achieve an optimal state of wellness. I am committed to providing a safe and non-judgmental space to help facilitate change. I utilize an integrated approach that uses both interpersonal and humanistic therapy, while also incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy and holistic interventions. My goal is to gain an understanding of my clients’ unique experiences and to use this understanding to treat their individual needs. I believe that healing can only begin to occur through a strong therapeutic relationship.

Has your teenager suddenly turned into someone you don't recognize? They're arguing more, getting in trouble at school, or finding it hard to make friends. Sometimes, you feel like you're parenting a werewolf. You're not sure if their behavior is normal or if they need professional help. They won't talk to you like they used to and you're at a loss for what to do next. Becoming a person is hard and teens may be weighed down by anxiety, depression, social difficulties, or trauma. Teens have unique needs and deserve a therapist who specializes in helping them grow and thrive in a healthy way.

As an attachment-oriented Licensed Professional Counselor, I specialize in working with individuals struggling with high-functioning anxiety and couples who are stuck in cycles of miscommunication/misunderstandings. Many of the individuals I work with have a haunting sense of "imposter syndrome" in the workplace and within their relationships, feeling incompetent and insecure regardless of what they have achieved. My couples often find themselves struggling with how to communicate effectively with each other and unsure of why they continually have miscommunications over their relationship, responsibilities, and desires.

As a counselor, I believe my role is to help others tap into their own innate and powerful ability to heal. I support my clients in cultivating awareness around the connection between their bodies and minds. This leads to a deeper understanding of ourselves, how we relate to others and how and cope with daily life.

Not accepting new clients
Not feeling quite as happy or satisfied as you would like? In relationships do you find yourself feeling unheard and disconnected? And you can't quite put your finger on what is going on? I will work with you to find solutions to current problems and to understand recurring patterns that impact our daily lives. Often it requires healing old wounds so we can move on from the past in order to develop a deeper bond with oneself and others.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
