I have trained in a number of settings including psychosocial oncology (cancer); college counseling centers; and parenting wellness centers where I have worked with women struggling with postpartum adjustment, anxiety, or depression.
I feel that I work best with motivated individuals who are curious about themselves, their relationships, and the kinds of struggles which interfere with their fully enjoying their lives.

Are you a parent of a child who is struggling? Do you feel like you have to do it all? You don’t have to do this alone. Humans develop in relationship to others, and we heal that way too. My focus is on childrens’ relationships with their caregivers - from processing challenging life events to managing hard feelings. The children I work with may be struggling with worry about friendships and family relationships, challenges with big emotions, doubts about their worth or appearance, academic difficulties, or navigating grief and loss. I support children in navigating these and many other challenging realities of growing up.

Therapy is about seeking balance and asking questions and looking for answers. Finding a balance between what we feel and what we know and a balance between the quicker emotional side of our mind and the more considered rational side are part of the process. Whether the questions are around interpersonal relationships, substance abuse, parenting, or career and motivation the answers will come only with this balance. My approach to therapy is about solving problems based on a relational and collaborative approach offering a supportive and sympathetic ear balanced with reality and solutions.

I especially enjoy work with adults and adolescents around issues including life transitions, identity formation, sexual orientation, pregnancy, fertility, postpartum depression, parenting, problems with work or social relationships, search for connection, loss and bereavement.
Whether you are already on a path to change and transformation or if you're feeling stuck, I hope you'll find a good fit in these pages to begin an important journey. Discomfort or uncertainty brought on by depression, anxiety, grief, early trauma, career shifts or financial stress can throw one off balance and make life feel hard. Setting aside time every week to reflect on your feelings offers a rich opportunity to sort through challenging experiences. I look forward to meeting you and helping you examine aspects of your life that you wish to understand more fully.

Using a collaborative, practical approach, I specialize in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, couple problems, parenting concerns (early childhood and adolescence), ACOA issues and the more general impact of childhood stressors on adult development.
Throughout almost 35 years as a clinical psychologist, I've been impressed that the emotional suffering affecting us all, at times, has such universal causes. Insecurities and shame connected to childhood experiences over which we've had no control can take root, damaging self-esteem and emerging in symptoms of depression, anxiety and self-destructive behavior patterns. Even without overwhelming childhood stressors, feelings of inadequacy, and once self-protective, now limiting "chains" of feeling/thinking/reacting can interfere with realizing dreams, weathering losses and meeting new life challenges in the areas of love and work.

I also offer parent guidance.
My clients often come to me after many years of feeling overwhelmed, invisible or stuck. Some come with feelings of inadequacy or histories of trauma. Some come feeling 'outsider' or apart from a sense of community or after experiencing a recent event that has been destabilizing. I offer a warm, safe space to talk about yourself so you can integrate and move through old hurts.

New Client Openings for May 2024! I am dedicated to helping others find their own path to personal fulfillment. I believe each of us can expand on the ways we deal with stress and relationships. I'm committed to creating a warm, interactive and compassionate therapeutic environment and have experience treating issues of anxiety, depression, parenting, relational stress, life transitions and trauma. Post pandemic life has created so many new sources of pressure and hardship, while often weakening our supports and connections. I believe therapy is a comforting and effective way to focus on our self care and well being.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
