If you identify as queer or unclear/unidentified along the sexual orientation/gender spectrum; have struggles with self-esteem, depression, anxiety, grief/loss, mid/end-of-life, sex offender history or inter-generational fantasy, nudist or kink/fetish proclivity, you are welcome.
Whether the origin of your struggle is fuzzy or clear to you, I invite you to come begin the journey of clearing the roadblocks that have become obstacles to being your whole, joyous, and most effective self. I commit to creating a safe and sacred space for you to be yourself - to risk, receive and integrate new skills into your life to obtain the outcome you seek, and beyond. We are equal travelers on this planet and it is from this place where you will always be greeted by me; human first, therapist 2nd - with respect, dignity, and non-judgment always being at the center of our time together.

Areas of expertise include working with siblings, parents/caregivers & families who have experienced the death of a child (perinatal through young adulthood).
My practice is centered on the idea of walking with each other. As a therapist, my goal is to travel with you wherever the road may take us. I consider it a privilege to be invited into the sacred space of your story – to bear witness to all that you share as we navigate, together, this part of your journey.

I have extensive experience dealing with issues of relationship conflict, depression, anxiety, addiction, trauma, grief & loss, and spirituality.
I am licensed to practice in MA, NY, RI, and ME, and am available for virtual sessions. I use an integrative approach to psychotherapy, combining insight and skills-based frameworks. I help clients understand how their past experiences and relationships shaped and influence who they are now and how they experience the world (insight), and I help them develop tools for addressing current life situations and for putting that insight to work in moving their lives in the direction they want (skills-based). This approach helps clients link the past which formed them, the present they are living in, and the future they wish to experience.

My particular areas of focus are congenital heart disease, grief/bereavement, and care across the perinatal continuum.
What I enjoy most about my work is the variety of people I am able to meet and help to achieve their personal goals, whatever they may be. Whether you are digesting a new chapter in your life, coping with a loss, getting to know yourself again, or anything in between, it can be so hard to ask for and accept help. I aim to cultivate a space where you feel heard, understood, and validated. If you are ready to do the work, I am here to help. Outside of therapeutic counseling, I also offer clinical supervision to other social workers in the field.

My expertise includes anxiety, depression, adjustment, relationships, communications, trauma, grief/loss, betrayal, transitions, divorce, and medical/health concerns, and others.
Sadness, depression, grief, anger, anxiety, betrayal, confusion, our relationships, and work stresses can leave us feeling lost and out of balance with ourselves and with others important to us. I have worked for 20+ yrs. with individuals and couples in Maryland and Massachusetts. I actively engage with my clients to bring about new insights, and fresh ways of thinking, feeling and behaving so a re-balance can occur. Together we work to release negative core beliefs and shift dysfunctional patterns resulting in clients' greater clarity, empowerment, peace, and satisfaction. Clients become more connected to themselves and others.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
