Young widowhood can be lonely and isolating. Once-close relationships don't seem to 'fit' anymore and no one seems to really understand what you are going through. If you are 55 and under, you've lost your partner within the last 18 months, and you would like to connect--in person--with others who 'get it,' I hope you'll consider joining The Young Widows Grief Support Group. Up-to-date group details can be found on my website: www.drjillgross.com.

When we tend lovingly to our grief, transitions like death, separation, divorce, and mid-life challenges can actually be invitations to live more fully.
When the unwanted or unexpected happens, it is as if the whole world has imploded. If left untended, grief can show up in ways that don't serve us. We can lose ourselves in alcohol, sleep, work--anything to numb the pain. Some of us lash out or withdraw from the people and things that give our lives meaning (e.g., family, friends, community). It doesn't have to be this way! I specialize in helping people whose lives have been affected by illness or death, separation or divorce, and mid-life issues (parenting struggles, caring for aging parents, etc.).

This will be an open group, meaning that there will be space for men to join as we go. Application and interview are required prior to joining. We will begin with grounding, a short teaching and spend the vast majority of the time in process group therapy. This is dynamic, changing and powerful. Those that commit to the work will get the most out of the work.

Are you struggling to cope with the death of a loved one? Maybe you’re in survival mode: fighting just to stay above water, or perhaps you feel like you don’t recognize yourself: more angry, less motivated, or experiencing emotions that feel completely foreign. Your grief may be so overwhelming that you don’t even know what you feel. You may be wondering how life will ever feel normal again. This grief and loss support group is a safe space to learn more about grief, talk about your experience, and connect with other women who get it. Schedule a consultation at OjalaAlliance.com.

As an experienced anxiety, grief, & relationship therapist, I’m here to guide you and help you get curious about yourself to create change, growth, and a more fulfilling life.
Do you find yourself gripped by anxiety and worry, no matter what you do? From relationship to relationship, you keep finding yourself in the same negative cycle. You might be asking yourself: Why do I keep ending up in relationships with partners who treat me horribly? Why do I always feel like I have to be there for everyone else, but no one is there for me? You know you need to make a shift, you're just not sure how. You want to gain deeper insight into yourself and your past experiences, and you’re ready to change your “default setting” and start creating new patterns in your life.

My education and my child loss qualify me to companion bereaved parents.
I offer individual and group grief counseling to grievers. As a suicide-bereaved mother myself, I offer traumatic grief counseling to parents and other grievers. Because child loss can be so isolating, bereaved parents often find companionship in a group to be a comfort on this difficult lifelong path. While religious/spiritual notions can be a support, often they are not. As people of conscience, we can lean into what comforts and release what is no longer helpful; sometimes clients grapple with their changing beliefs in sessions. Traumatic grief often leads to changes in beliefs and I companion that exploration. I am a humanist.

This is a 4 week guided bereavement group. Support groups bring together people facing similar issues. It can be helpful just getting to talk with other people who are in the same situation. A group can help you cope better and feel less isolated and a valuable resource to help you cope. Going through grief with others to lean on often reduces the burden and isolation that comes with experiencing loss. These are travelers on the same road. Consider joining a support group for adult loss. Cost for 4 week group is 400$. Please inquire within regarding flexible payment plans.

Life is truly an unpredictable journey full of ups and downs. We make new friends, lose others, fall in love, and break up. We change schools, move to new places, change careers, get married, become parents, lose pets and people we love, and numerous other events. Waiting for time to heal the losses is like expecting a flat tire to inflate itself if you wait long enough. The Grief Recovery Method equips us with the tools to let go of pain and move forward with our lives, no longer hindered by our past.

I experienced it firsthand as a client before becoming a certified grief specialist in the Grief Recovery Method.
Are you tired of feeling alone, like no one understands the pain you carry around? Do you wish you could feel joy again? Do painful memories make it hard to enjoy the happy memories you had of loved ones? Do you find yourself feeling exhausted? Grief accumulates and weighs us down the more losses we experience unless we process them in a healthy way, which few of us learn in life. I established Peace After Loss to assist individuals grappling with shattered hopes, dreams, and expectations in their relationships.

How do you find courage, support and strength when you're in this in-between territory? It helps to have someone who's been there listen as you sort it out. Someone who gives you space to discern what you need. Someone who understands your language and can help you recognize and explore new possibilities. My practice is committed to helping adults with anxiety/depression, grief/ loss, health concerns, and challenges within relationships.
No matter how together we appear on the outside, life can feel overwhelming and exhausting if we're hurting on the inside. Challenging circumstances can take us to the edge of our ability to cope, and major life transitions such as the illness/ loss of a loved one, trauma, beginning a new phase of life, or changes at home and/or work often leave us feeling full of fear and out of control. Therapy helps you adjust to your situation by teaching you new skills and gaining alternative perspectives.

Grief Support Groups

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
