I help parents identify and navigate challenges, set goals, and utilize evidence-based parenting strategies and psychoeducation to improve family functioning and communication. I specialize in teaching parenting the positive discipline way and supporting parents through behavioral challenges. At the end of this group parents will be able to: understand the goals of misbehavior and how to address them, involve children in problem solving, build mutual respect, understand kind but firm discipline, hold a family meeting effectively, connect with their children on a meaningful level, provide encouragement, understand various parenting styles and temperament, utilize their toolbox of parenting strategies.

Does your child get frustrated easily with homework? Guess frequently at words? Have poor handwriting? Read slowly or inaccurately? Lack self-esteem? Dislike reading? I can help! My practice recognizes the interplay of academics, mental health, cognition, and behavior, which is why we incorporate social-emotional learning, self-regulation strategies, and growth mindset to foster whole child development in addition to using a structured literacy approach. Customized services meet children where they are so they can build the confidence they need and deserve to succeed in the classroom and beyond.

My strengths as a clinician are working with young adults, young couples, and women who have survived traumatic events, including ongoing interpersonal trauma, and who want support to process these experiences in order to show up more fully for their lives in the present. I also really enjoy supporting individuals and couples as they are making transitions in their lives and in their relationships, growing their family, navigating pregnancy and postpartum stages, striving to better integrate their careers and family, and deepening intimacy and connection with each other.

This is not a group where we will sit in a circle telling war-stories about trauma or loss. Here, we will cultivate the healing experiences necessary to grow from trauma. Sessions will be facilitated with an emphasis on safety, building strengths, and empowering participants to put change into action. Group sessions will include various embodied and experiential forms of therapy that allow us to move beyond words or narratives. Instead of an emphasis on retelling trauma stories - we will build the strengths necessary to change how trauma lives within us and alter the trajectories of our lives going forward.

While other programs claim to be 'trauma-informed', our practice revolves entirely around trauma therapy. This is what we do best. The Phoenix Center for Experiential Trauma Therapy is named after the legendary figure of the phoenix that dies and is reborn from its own ashes – it is a symbol of transformation, resilience, and growth after trauma. While we cannot change the past, we can change how past experiences live within us! Sessions range from $200-125 with our therapists. Low-cost therapy sessions with our graduate interns range from $85-30.

Founded by Dr. Gail Serruya, a psychiatrist with over 18 years experience, our team offers Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy for anxiety, depression, bipolar depression, and PTSD. We offer IV ketamine infusions, intramuscular injections, oral ketamine, and Spravato (intranasal ketamine). We also offer therapy and medication management.

Does life feel like a struggle? Maybe you feel overwhelmed, frustrated, and not like yourself. Everything is annoying. Your fuse is running a bit short. You don't even want to interact with other people because it's too much: too much energy, too much trying, too much struggle. You don't feel like anyone can understand you. Past memories continue to impact you and you don't know what else to do. Life feels like such a struggle. You want to be involved in life and happy. You want to laugh, smile, and enjoy life.

Hello, my name is Jillian Glace, Founder of Belonging Counseling. I'm so grateful you found your way here. I sincerely honor the courage it takes to seek support. If you are experiencing disconnection from your own body/self, increased isolation, struggling to feel that you belong, or identify as part of a marginalized community where there are imposed barriers to belonging- you are not alone. The irony is that many of us feel alone in the current world we live in, yet if we work to reconnect to our selves and rejoin in community with one another, we can experience the truth that we do belong and are never outside of anything.

You aren’t sure where you fit in anymore. You feel like you aren’t good enough and your relationships aren’t the one you want. Life is sometimes difficult, but all you want is to find relief from the shame, anxiety, and feeling like you don’t belong in your family or in your community. You're so tired of this happening over and over and being panicked, stressed, and overwhelmed. As others invalidate you for who you are, your self-doubt and isolation grow. You know you need support or guidance, but figuring out who can be trusted or what will be helpful feels overwhelming. Where do you even begin?

In this group Eileen and a therapist identify and discuss how ADHD affects children and also their parents. We discuss how ADHD can affect school, home, sports, and a child or adolescent social environment. We guide parents on how to handle issues that come up for ADHD kids with medication side effects, appetite, sleep, emotional ups and downs, impulsivity, and academics. Embracing the positive qualities of your child/teen with ADHD while also learning to manage the not-so-positive qualities that come with this diagnosis is equally important. These kids need encouragement and to be recognized for their wins.

Integration is a process in which a person revisits and actively engages in making sense of, working through, translating, and processing the content of their psychedelic experience. Through intentional and supportive practices, this process allows one to gradually capture and incorporate the emergent lessons and insights into their lives, thus moving toward greater balance and wholeness, both internally and externally.

FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups

How can I find a support group in Pennsylvania?

Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, zip code, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

How does group therapy work?

Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.

Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.

What are the benefits of group therapy?

Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.

Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?

Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.

How much does group therapy cost?

Group counseling is typically less expensive than individual counseling, with each session costing on average between $60 to $75. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from $100 to $200 and up, even after insurance. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.

Does insurance cover group therapy?

As with individual therapy, many insurance companies do offer coverage for group therapy sessions. However, the coverage varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider. Individuals are encouraged to check with their insurance providers to verify coverage.

How long does group therapy last?

The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.

What are the limitations of support groups?

Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
