I work with people on all stages of their ADHD journey whether this is a childhood diagnosis, a new diagnosis as an adult.
Do you feel drained and exhausted but don’t really know why? Do you observe other people around you seemingly effortlessly manage tasks that you seem unable to accomplish? Do you notice repeating patterns in your relationships or at work? Do you feel stuck? Do you feel you never found out who you really are or what you are good at? Do your passions, interests, relationships or jobs change all the time? Do you feel like you will never find out what you really want? Would you like to have more connection with yourself? Find more access to that inner voice that seems to know what you really need, deep inside?

Hello, I'm Matthew (he/him). I offer support for anxiety, depression, grief, and relationship issues. My specialisation is working with people who are LGBTQ+ and ADHD / Neurodivergent, however, I offer a warm welcome to everyone. Having personally experienced the challenges of living in a heteronormative and neurotypical world, I understand the difficulties of coping with feelings of shame and rejection. I believe these feelings can be overcome and I offer a new hope for living comfortably and authentically.

I have experience of working with neurodiversity and people with ADHD and autism, depression, anxiety, childhood abuse, trauma, anger, drug and alcohol use and other addictions.
Every person has their own unique story. What happens in our lives as our story unfolds shapes who we are, how we see and experience the world, how we feel about it and where we fit within it. Counselling can help you discover more about who you are, learn about your relationships, understand past events and how you developed, help you have deeper understanding of yourself and learn new ways to live your life. Counselling can help you change from feeling that your story is being written for you and learn how to start writing it for yourself. I currently have availability to take new clients.

Do you fear the worst things you say to yourself are true? Holding it together on the outside might feel like hanging on by your fingernails inside. You may be crushed by external circumstances or overwhelmed by internal turmoil. Perhaps you’re driven to overachieve at great personal cost, yet never seem to reach your potential in relationships, creativity or career. Familiar ways of coping no longer work, whether that’s immersive daydreaming, masking undiagnosed ADHD, or endless people-pleasing. It's hard to express what you want or need to live an authentic, fulfilled life. You simply cannot - you choose not to - go on like this.

I'm a highly experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist and sleep specialist providing evidence-based psychological interventions (including CBT) for a range of difficulties including insomnia, adult ADHD, anxiety, work-related stress and burnout, trauma, depression, OCD, health anxiety, phobia, self-esteem issues and relationship difficulties.
Psychological support is about investing in you. Life can be chaotic, intense, confusing, and we can be left feeling disconnected from ourselves, our lives, and the people around us. Sometimes we just need some space to stop and think. Psychological support is also about developing a deeper understanding of yourself - who you are, what you need, what matters to you. For others, it's about building on existing skills - how to get more out of relationships, improving communication, being more assertive, boosting your sleep and performance, learning to be the best version of yourself.

You may be struggling to keep anxiety, stress, loneliness or depression at arm's length, coping with family conflict, childhood trauma, ADHD, chronic illness or difficulties related to sexuality and relationships.
I am an experienced, welcoming and open-minded counsellor. Exploring in-depth what is troubling us with someone who is really listening, not just to your words but to the person behind them, can in itself be a healing process. It may also bring to light beliefs and ways of living that are holding you back. I draw on a range of integrative talking therapies (including Internal Family Systems). When something more is needed than talking alone, Brainspotting (a somatic therapy that evolved out of EMDR) can offer a gentle but powerful way to access deeper areas of the brain where emotional difficulties arise.

Many of my clients are additionally struggling with reproductive issues, chronic health conditions and ADHD.
A common theme among my clients is a sense that they have experienced trauma either in their childhood or through events later in life or a combination of both. I work mainly with female identifying individuals who are experiencing both mental health and physical health issues and seeking an approach that involves their body. Often my clients have explored talking therapy and have done their research and understand that healing trauma requires being helped to attend to the physical sensations and movement patterns that they have unconsciously adopted as a response to overwhelming experiences.

I have relevant experience working with young adults from a wide range of backgrounds as also working with ASD; ADHD (holding a diagnosis or not) and their families.
Everyone will experience times in their lives when problems can feel overwhelming. Experienced traumas, difficulties with relationships, sexuality issues, fear of aloneness, pattern of behaviour are just a few examples of life struggles that can be experienced by everyone at some stage of their lives. These difficulties create conscious and unconscious barriers to our authenticity and impact our relationships. I understand how hard it can be to start therapy and will offer a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space (face-face and online) to explore together whatever you wish to discuss. I am a registered member of BACP and UKCP.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioural therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
