Pregnancy and a new baby usually bring excitement and happiness, but for some parents, this time can be full of worry, fear, sadness, irritability and confusion. Maybe you are feeling alone, disconnected, overwhelmed or full of rage and guilt. Perhaps you are a new father confused because you are having similar feelings. You are not alone. Nearly 60% of new mothers and 25% of fathers feel what you're feeling during pregnancy and/or during the first few years of their baby's life.I have experience working with parents just like you who may be experiencing this mixed bag of emotions when it comes to their baby!

Are you feeling stuck? Anxious? Are you inclined towards mindful and body-centred practices like yoga? Perhaps you've tried cognitive behavioural groups but don't feel that you are getting to the underlying root? I work with adults who are dealing with anxiety, depression, grief/loss, life transitions (e.g. separation and divorce), relationship issues, trauma, pregnancy and post-partum. I work collaboratively helping you to make sense of your experience, heal any pieces getting in the way, build new skills, so you ultimately can become more alive, aligned and peaceful.

On the good days, you are unsure if you really need any help. You think it will pass. But on the difficult days, you find yourself here. You are tired and overwhelmed. Your mood is low, and your patience is short. Your relationships feel fragile, and your resilience is waning. Adding one more to-do item to your list seems impossible. Maybe even indulgent. You can ignore your struggle, and maybe tomorrow will be a better day. Or, you can find yourself the support you deserve and know that it will be. You do not have to do this alone.

You're constantly feeling on edge and don't know where to turn next. You don't know if you can keep going as you are without making some changes. But even thinking about those changes makes you feel uncertain or scared. Maybe you feel nausea or fear or shame about yelling at your kids. Maybe you feel empty or you have consuming thoughts about your life choices. Maybe you're just exhausted because things are hard. People come to me to move away from feeling overwhelmed, trust themselves again, and to feel better in their lives (as they define it). If any of this sounds like you, I promise you're not alone in feeling this way.

I believe it takes courage to take this first step in reaching out for help. Life is full of challenges and roadblocks that can often be difficult to move past or face alone. In therapy we will work on things that are of concern to you and at a pace that feels right for you. I work with individuals struggling with anxiety, stress, grief, or relationship issues. My niche is in working with women struggling with infertility, pregnancy loss or postpartum challenges.

Stardust is a queer-owned collective of mental health workers trying to make counselling more accessible and affirming to folks experiencing systemic oppression. All of our team members have lived experience with mental health issues and/or neurodivergence, and we recognize the role that oppression plays in causing and aggravating mental health stuff. We work from a trauma-informed, intersectional and social justice-focused framework. We believe in harm reduction and are strongly sex and sex-worker positive, kink positive, familiar with non-traditional relationship dynamics, body-positive, and anti-capitalist.

Are you finding the early days of parenthood more challenging than you could have anticipated? Maybe you're navigating the challenges of infertility or dealing with the heartbreak of pregnancy loss? Or are you yearning to become a parent and considering or starting the journey toward single parenthood? None of these are easy places to be. Since these topics are often stigmatised it can be hard to know where to look for support. My training and experience are tailored to help you feel seen and supported as you work through grief, anxiety, and overwhelm and any other experience or emotion that's arising for you.

You're overwhelmed by worries, low mood, stress, grief, or impostor syndrome. Daily life feels like you're just going through the motions and you are sliding further away from where you thought you'd be. But you are not alone and it won't always be this hard. We will create a relationship built on curiosity, compassion, and the belief that you are stronger than you think. Couples therapy for couples facing challenges in their relationship as (new) parents also offered.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialised therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
