I have a passion for working with individuals who are struggling to stay on top of their emotional responses. This can be due to so many factors from the state of our world, the result of high anxiety, an overactive stress response, trauma and post traumatic stress disorder, conflict in relationships, or burnout. We all experience times when our usual coping strategies are no longer enough and we are in distress. Our relationships suffer, our work suffers and our families suffer.

As a registered masters of social work clinician with 20 yrs experience serving individuals (including adolescents) and families in community-based & healthcare settings I offer compassionate, client-centred counselling for anxiety, depression, addictions, relational & interpersonal distress, trauma and grief & loss (including pregnancy loss).
Having authentic connections can impact our ability to fully engage ourselves in the work needed to create change. I have found that sometimes the most profound, transformative healing takes place within the simplicity & safety of a supportive client-therapist relationship. Authenticity, trust & respect are the guiding principles of my trauma-informed, spiritually sensitive and culturally safe practice. Rooted in positive psychology and mindfulness approaches, my counselling sessions integrate several evidence-based therapies including EMDR for trauma, DBT and CBT for anxiety, narrative & rational emotive informed therapies.

She is a level 4 trained Lifespan Integration therapist, a gentle, non-re traumatizing modality that effectively helps individuals process trauma, creates a deep sense that the trauma is "over," and illicits self-compassion and allows you to access your deep, innate wisdom.
Are you a late-diagnosed or suspected Neurodivergent (ND) adult, ND couple, high-achieving woman, mother, or person who has suffered from the lifelong effects of trauma? If you are someone who wishes to understand yourself better, release your people-pleasing, over-functioning, and controlling tendencies, and fully heal from your past traumas, Li can help. Suppose you are someone who knows that better communication, appropriate boundaries, and better emotional regulation would make a world of difference in your life. In that case, Li, with 20+ years of counselling, coaching, teaching and leading people like yourself, can help.

This combination is powerful for addressing trauma & stuck issues.
I've been practicing since 1995 & I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor & Marriage & Family Therapist. However, I am now only accepting individual clients 18+. It's clear to me that we can all struggle, even if we are successful in other areas of our lives. Life can be unpredictable & the stress & demands of everyday life, work & relationships can take its toll. As stressors build, you may find yourself struggling with anxiety, mood, eating, body image issues or turning to addictive behaviours. You may also find that unresolved grief or past trauma keeps seeping into your daily life & especially when you least want or expect it.

Seeking a more fulfilling life? If you're struggling with depression, anxiety, grief, relationship difficulties, or the lingering impact of trauma, you’re not alone. The pressures of life, parenting challenges, and daily stress can feel overwhelming. Many people today grapple with anxiety, search for purpose, and work to manage relationships while healing from past experiences. We believe that everyone has the potential to overcome these obstacles, find peace and joy, embrace change, and cultivate hope.

I am also trained in two robust trauma modalities: Lifespan Integration and Observed Experiential Integration.
I believe that the experiences we have in our inner and outer world teach us something about the world, ourselves, and others; and they contribute to the forming of often unconscious patterns in the way we think, feel, and act. These experiences can even be stored in the body/nervous system, otherwise known as trauma. In other words, our experiences help create a “map” that show us how to navigate uncertainty, relationships with others, and relationships with our selves. I believe that people come to therapy when those 'maps' are no longer working and need updating. That's where I come in!

Couple and Family Counselling is the focus of my practice. Relationship dynamics can be complex. I work with couples and family members in a collaborative and non-judgmental way to identify what is working and what is not within the family system. I also specialize in working with trauma, first responders (BCEHS and the RCMP) and with individuals who have experienced, witnessed, or perpetrated violence. I believe the details of my clients lived experiences are important and I will work hard to understand clients responses, and the larger context. I have over 10 years’ experience working with individuals, couples, and families.

Do you find yourself feeling stuck lately? Struggling to feel connected with yourself and those around you? Have you been feeling lonely, overwhelmed, anxious or depressed? Maybe you're noticing that your past is having a negative impact on your present. So many of us find ourselves making the same mistakes; repeating old patterns, again and again. This often leaves us feeling defeated, invalidated and powerless in our very own lives. I am passionate about helping clients identify and overcome the obstacles that keep them from reaching their full potential.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
