With over 12 years in the mental health field, I integrate mind and body-centred therapeutic modalities such as, narrative, somatic, mindfulness, cognitive behavioural, and family systems.
I believe that we are all resilient beings, in the process of healing and growing; we have the capacity to explore new ways of living, being and connecting. I’d love to help you break through feeling stuck or overwhelmed in your life, to reignite a deeper sense of worthiness and confidence, feel anchored in your strengths, and more present with yourself and in your relationships. I specialize in helping people who struggle with anxiety, low mood, family and relational issues, trauma, life transitions, stress/burnout, and grief & loss. Through life's turbulent times, I can help you feel empowered to heal, grow, and reach your goals.

I also use the somatic approach, CBT, and DBT to access and change deeper emotional and cognitive processes.
I believe that all problems that seem to defy solutions are directly affected – even determined - by how you experience and relate to yourself and others. Exploring the psychological meaning and emotional sense you attach to your specific internal struggles, feelings, and experiences can bring new insights and creative changes to your life. I am deeply committed to facilitating a safe, trusting relationship that can help you heal, grow, and become more fully yourself. I work with a wide range of individuals and couples, focusing on helping people create healthy and fulfilling lives in their internal and external worlds.

In counselling, I use an eclectic approach integrating somatic, parts, strengths-based, and relational approaches.
I work with individuals who are navigating various concerns, such as queer, racialized sexualized violence. I also support individuals navigating anxiety, life transitions, issues of identity, grief, and experiences of trauma such as gender-based violence. I have a background in supporting survivors of gender-based violence, including sexualized violence and domestic violence. When working in this field, I often had to support individuals navigating oppressive systems.

Sometimes we might focus on somatic/the body, and sometimes the cognition/the mind.
Hello and welcome, My name is Nazanin Moghadami and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor, activist and community organizer practising in the so-called British Columbia. My approach to counselling is shaped by my experiences as a queer, BIPOC, immigrant woman, and is strongly rooted in feminist, anti-oppression and justice oriented framework. We will explore how the patterns we learned and created as children show up in our adult lives and the way they might have strayed from their initial purposes. My approach is collaborative and consent-based. I have training in: EMDR, Hakomi, CBT, Focusing, IFS, Narrative and more.

Along with change-making techniques like CBT, and narrative therapies, I also like to use more holistic approaches to healing like somatic therapy which considers the full person—mind, body and spirit.
I'm not here to instruct you on how to live your life or to criticize the way you already do. I'm here to give you a safe space to express yourself and let go of the burden of having to carry it all alone. You are likely here at this time in your life because you are sick of telling yourself stories that don't suit your best interests or the best version of yourself. Reconnecting with the part of you that knows you deserve to be happy is my aim in helping you. In our work together I will help you get in touch with your own knowing and tap into your strengths.

Our time together will be tailored to your unique needs and preferences, but some therapies I commonly integrate are Feminist Theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), emotion-focused practices, mindfulness and somatic practices.
Whether you’re struggling with stress or anxiety, navigating life transitions, have mental health concerns, or something in between, my goal is to offer you a soft place to find your ground. We will build a trusting relationship where you feel safe unravelling difficult thoughts and feelings, moving through painful experiences, and exploring your identity and relationships in the world. I work with individuals and relationships of all backgrounds and experiences. Nothing is too big or too small to bring to the therapy room.

I work from an attachment, and somatic lens as your body and brain need time to process the barriers, stress and traumatic histories preventing you from leading the meaningful life you want.
You are asking the big existential questions. Why am I here? What is the purpose of my life? Perhaps you keep looking to self-help books and always taking the next seminar or online course - always looking for the answers outside yourself. You want to feel connected to yourself, your loved ones, and the world around you, yet you feel like you don't belong. You feel loss and grief and are searching for purpose but are living with depression and anxiety and questioning your self-worth.

My approach involves mindfulness-based somatic therapy to build trust and safety in the body for effective EMDR and general counselling.
I always have been drawn to uncovering the complex ways we are impacted the experiences in our lives. In particular the impact of trauma on our resilience and on our 'stuck' places. Our bodies carry the weight of our histories and the histories we inherit. In reprocessing trauma it is necessary for us to be attuned to these somatic experiences and to foster the wisdom stored within our bodies.

Through a somatic oriented psychotherapeutic process, rooted in the wisdom of your own cyclic body, I hold space for you to access, understand, and unlock the wisdom that is already embedded within you, dissolve what is getting on the way to feel whole and are able find home in your own Body.
I work with women who are ready to commit to a deep & conscious spiritual process of healing & transformation. Whether wanting to recover from trauma, feeling lost inside, depressed, anxious, empty, I am committed to supporting your journey. Convinced that no healing happens if body is not involved, my approach weaves somatic therapy, EMDR & cyclical awareness from a humanistic & client centred stance and keeps developing as I keep deepening my research in the areas of trauma, attachment theory, ancestral legacies of trauma & energy healing.

Somatic Counsellors

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
