Making the decision to seek therapy can be difficult, it takes a lot of courage and self reflection to admit that it is time to get help. My hope in working with you is that you will feel like you can really "be yourself". I will listen and take my time to get to know you with full acceptance and understanding. I will focus on your issues and we will address your personal challenges with tenderness and compassion. Your concerns may include shame, low self esteem, chronic stress, perfectionism, anxiety, or depression. You may lack confidence or feel the need to hide and self isolate. It can become overwhelming and exhausting.

As a mother, you’ve done all your homework and have read all the scripts on what should be done, but for some reason, you’re still not feeling satisfied. You seem to have a never ending to-do list that overwhelms you and always seems to pull you away from what you truly want: a deeper connection to yourself, your partner, and your children. Within the ocean of “shoulds”, you are feeling anxious, resentful, unseen and unheard, while asking yourself, “What’s the point of working so hard?” As you try to keep up with all of the things, everything seems to be bubbling over and like it’s about to explode.

I am both a Registered Psychotherapist (qualifying) and a Registered Nurse. I have specialized training working with women during the perinatal period, I have additional training in supporting people with self-esteem, people-pleasing, shame, trauma, anxiety, and neurodivergence. I believe for counselling to be successful, treatment must be centered on learning from and with each person, respecting and valuing their unique experiences, and learning what is important to them. While every person will have their mental health affected at some point in their life, some at multiple points, I believe mental health is achievable for all.

In person or virtual sessions available, with no waitlist! You want to live better. Your life is good. Outwardly everything is fine, but inwardly there’s a sense of unrest. You've been feeling overwhelmed with an endless to-do list, confusion about what you’re supposed to be doing and an uncomfortable feeling that you’re living your life alone and disconnected from the people and things that matter more to you. You’re not alone. The pain, stress, anxiety or sadness you’re feeling is real. Acknowledging the experiences, situations and relationships that led you here is the first step to healing.

When we’re caught in the struggle we can feel hopeless. We may notice things that use to help aren’t helping. We may have lost motivation to try, as a result of this. It’s common to get caught in the suggestions of others, or online searching for something that may help. We may not know where to start but know, we don’t want to keep feeling/thinking/living as is. Therapy services can help us find a starting point, then develop a plan and act on making change, all while supported by a regulated professional in the field.

Trauma can profoundly impact our well-being, leaving us feeling disconnected and alone. It can create extreme psychological stress in our daily interactions with others, impeding our quality of life. Trauma does not have to be one significant event. It can be a series of relational or attachment wounds experienced in childhood, leading to self-esteem issues, problems asserting boundaries and people-pleasing behaviours. If you struggle to feel safe, know that you are not alone. I aim to create a warm and welcoming environment where we can re-establish your sense of connection and trust in others.

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
