Taking steps toward healing can be an intimidating process but you do not need to do it alone.
[Note: RSW, Inactive/On Leave] Life can be challenging, and although we all have the inner resources to overcome these hardships, we may benefit from some extra support to move us towards mental wellness and our ideal self. As a therapist, I offer individual and group therapy to youth (ages 12-30) who present with concerns related but not limited to anxiety, depression, emotion regulation, relationships, and school/work. Together, we will co-create goals and a therapeutic plan by exploring factors that may contribute to the issue(s) at hand but also personal strengths that can be leveraged within recovery.

Waitlist for new clients
As your clinician, I am devoted to continuing education and seeking material that could support you on your wellness journey.
I help people struggling with anxiety/ depression develop strategies to help them feel even 1% better/less stressed day by day. Client's have told me that thinking about their wellness journey in these smaller 1% steps is less overwhelming. Those 1%'s will start to add up! I am easy to talk to and down to earth. If you aren't sure what happens in therapy, give me a call! I would be happy to explain the process to you. The consultation is a great time to do a quick "vibe check" to see if we click and if you like my approach. If I am not the right fit for you, I will help connect you to someone who can help you!

My own losses have shaped me to be a compassionate counsellor.
Grief is unique for every individual. There are many different losses that individuals experience, but the commonality is that grief can be debilitating, lonely and isolating. I accompany clients on their journey of processing multiple forms of grief that can include death loss, pet loss, traumatic loss and/or chronic sorrow. I offer in-person, virtual and telephone sessions. I also am available to provide support to clients in a counselling capacity specific to mental health concerns (anxiety, depression, self esteem, family conflict).

Finding a therapist that you can build a strong alliance with has been shown to predict positive outcomes in therapy.
Are you overwhelmed? Maybe it's anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship problems, or trauma. My goal is to help you get out of survival mode and start having a life worth living. While pain is not something we can avoid (although we try really, really hard to!), suffering is something we can do without. I focus on exploring your goals and values to identify the type of change needed for you to live a meaningful life. Whether or not you know the path forward yet, I'm here to help you get to where you're meant to be.

Helping people live a better life is our passion.
Do you struggle with feeling disconnected from yourself and others? Do you put your needs at the bottom of the to-do list? Do you wonder if life should feel somehow better? Happier? Less stressful? Now more than ever, people are feeling anxious, overwhelmed and uncertain about how they are supposed to manage their relationships, careers, and their lives. Pushing away your needs and not taking time for yourself can lead to long-term issues for your mind, your body, and your relationships. We believe it shouldn’t be so hard to live a better, happier, less stressful life.

I understand that it can take a great deal of courage to share inner experiences and stories and take steps toward change and healing.
I am currently accepting new clients with evening and weekend availability. Sometimes life can be challenging, and it helps to have someone who can support us through our challenges. As a psychotherapist I help individuals with challenges that affect the way they feel, think, and behave. I also help couples with relational challenges.

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognise and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioural activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
