My work is influenced by: AEDP, EFT, Attachment theory, Bowen theory, Mindfulness practise, Solution focussed therapy.
Hi, I'm a Vancouver-based Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BCACC, offering virtual counselling sessions. I'm known for creating deep connections with my clients, and have a warm, down-to-earth presence. The goals of my work are to help clients both identify and process their emotions in healthy, manageable ways, as well as build secure, fulfilling and boundaried relationships with others. Not the least of which is the relationship the client has with 'self'. Who are you at your core? This important information helps combat things like insecurity, indecisiveness, perfectionism, loneliness and lack of direction.

This combined with aligned body-oriented techniques from IFS, AEDP and mindfulness-based theories has been shown.
The human experience can sometimes provide challenges along the way and it's natural to feel a little stuck or disconnected at times. We might come across feelings of shame, frustration, overwhelm or loneliness with what life has thrown at us and we don’t know where to turn. Through genuine warmth, compassion & presence, I try to cultivate a soft landing place for my clients so they don’t have to struggle with life’s circumstances on their own. While I touch on neuroscience and change, I also use a holistic, trauma-informed, collaborative approach where I welcome all diverse parts of my clients to be witnessed in the light with me.

Do you often feel anxious without a clear cause, find it hard to slow down, feel emotionally overwhelmed or disconnected? These experiences often signal deeper emotions that are hard to access due to unresolved past experiences or trauma. Throughout life, especially in early relationships, we develop strategies to maintain connections and manage anxiety around our emotions. While once adaptive, these strategies often become barriers in relationships and to living authentically. By collaboratively uncovering these defensive strategies and processing underlying emotions, we can help you move toward a more connected and fulfilling life

Recovery from pain is possible. Let's start together from understanding YOUR pain and creating a path to wellness that is unique for YOU. I am fascinated by the brain and body connection and the immense possibilities that arise when we open ourselves to learning and understanding how various psychoneurobiological mechanisms work, how our environments and circumstances have shaped us and continue to do so, and how we can harness the power of that understanding towards change. Studies indicate that many chronic pain conditions are often not the result of structural causes, but of psychoneurobiological processes that can be reversed.

I am a bicultural therapist and my clients relate to me because they look for someone who appreciates what it's like to be inside of cultural and generational divides. I have over 5 years of experience working with professionals, parents, and students on issues related to trauma, immigration, family dynamics, and unacknowledged grief. Unacknowledged grief is what that doesn't fit our society's expectations: grief of relocating, of surviving disasters, of change. What makes me different from most therapists, is that I am passionate about helping people navigate the "other" relationships: friendships and workplace dynamics.

Most of us desire to live our lives with a sense of confidence, purpose, and closeness with others, but difficult life experiences can lead us to build walls for protection and safety, and as a result, we can lose our sense of connection with ourselves and others. If you are here, you may be feeling some combination of lost, alone, stuck, anxious, afraid, unsure, frustrated or angry, overwhelmed, grief, worried, low, sad and/or depressed. We can work together to help you bring a greater sense of control, satisfaction, and ease into your life.

Who is AEDP therapy for?

Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) is for adults who have experienced emotional pain in the past that, because it has not been adequately addressed and processed, interferes with current functioning. The problems might manifest in a number of different ways, from excessive anger to relationship difficulties to PTSD to eating disorders, poor self-esteem, and depression. They may also be accompanied by physiological symptoms. AEDP helps people accept and digest challenging emotional experiences.

Why do people need AEDP?

People need AEDP as a way to manage distressing emotions—including anger, shame, and guilt—that in some way hamper the ability to function and form satisfying relationships in the present. The therapist-client relationship is believed to provide corrective emotional and relational experiences that facilitate positive changes in brain function, forge pathways for processing traumatic experiences, and allow resolution of emotional pain.

What happens in AEDP therapy?

Once individuals have established a strong bond with the AEDP therapist and the therapist has established a safe and secure environment, clients are encouraged to explore their most painful emotional experiences. They may be asked to pay attention to disquieting body sensations as well as to psychological discomfort. Individuals learn how to process emotions, rather than avoid them. Through the strength of the therapist-client bond, each session is intended to provide a powerful positive experience for individuals, enabling growth.

What problems does AEDP treat?

AEDP is intended to treat the unprocessed emotional pain caused by earlier distressing experiences, which commonly includes behavioural avoidance of current situations and experiences for fear that they will reactivate painful feelings. Emotional pain and avoidant behaviour play a role in a wide array of mental health conditions, which is why AEDP is applied to the treatment of a range of disorders including depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationship difficulties, and eating disorders.
