Are you facing challenges in your life which seem impossible to overcome? Maybe you cannot identify what is troubling you, but just know that things don't seem right. Hi, I’m Tracy and I have over 27 years' experience working as a therapist and credentialed mental health nurse with people who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, grief & loss and relationship challenges. In session I utilise animal assisted therapy (AAT) with my dog Beau to help those who are finding it difficult to cope and find a way forward.

I especially connect with and enjoy providing support to people who struggle because they are highly-sensitive (hsperson.com), perfectionists, over-thinkers, anxious/worriers, or they have a history of trauma (from childhood, or from adult experiences, such as military service, miscarriage, violent assault, workplace bullying). I enjoy complex presentations, where there may be PTSD, anxiety, attachment issues, perfectionism, where the person's goal is to create an inner peace, fulfilment and live a more contented life. With couples, I can help you learn how to communicate effectively, resolve conflicts and improve your connection.

Who am I? What is the purpose of my life? What is the purpose of my existence? Who adds value to my life? How do I add value to others? What do I need in my life? What do I expect? What do I want from life? My family is complicated, friendships are difficult, am I good enough? What is good enough even? My partner and I can't seem to communicate, and we have nothing in common anymore. Your feelings are real, it is your experience!

Therapy is a very intimate experience. In my work with people I strive for a personal connection with my clients from the get-go. Through that relationship, I am better able to understand the motivations, hidden struggles and impulses that drive my clients, and in turn, help them to utilize their own strengths and learned techniques to successfully address the difficulties being experienced by them. I have assisted clients who are going through or preparing for life transitions, experiencing depression, anxiety or mood disorders, or recovering from trauma or loss.

Becoming a first time parent is a huge transition. There are so many changes and new emotions that can arise during this time. Parents can often find this overwhelming, exhausting or confusing. Their reactions may not be how they imagined they would be, or they may not feel like themselves. Often in addition to individual changes, there are also significant relationship changes occurring too, with their baby, their partner, friends, family and extended social circle.

I specialise in supporting couples who have lost their way and are feeling disconnected from each other. Couples who see me, tell me they feel truly supported and grateful for the new skills and tools they have learned to foster a deeper connection together. This deeper connection allows you to be able to have transparent, honest conversations, saying what you need in a safe environment that I support in my clinic and beyond. Learning safe communications and active listening with each other can open up possibilities that did not seem possible when you started. It really is like learning a new language - the language of love!

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
