I work virtually only with adults, couples, and families on a variety of issues such as relationship conflict, family issues, parent-child relationship issues, work stress, depression, anxiety, life transitions, stress, grief loss, trauma, culture, immigrants, and women's issues, caregiver burnout.
If there is one thing we all have in common, it's a desire for connection. Loneliness, isolation, being different culturally or otherwise, trauma, loss- these are experiences that can lead to disconnection.

I am an adult and pediatric psychologist. Having been a practicing psychologist for over 20 years, my focus is cognitive behavior therapy. This involves changing the irrational beliefs behind stress, anxiety, and depression. Some of my specialties include women's issues, trauma, rape, OCD, teens, children, divorce, drug & alcohol related issues. Life is stressful. It sometimes feels like it's just too much to handle. Perhaps you are feeling tired all the time, anxious, depressed, unfulfilled in your relationships or job, or as though you are going through the motions of life experiencing little joy. You are not alone.

Listen, adulthood can be hard, and unfortunately life doesn't come with a user guide. We're expected to maintain family, finances, relationships, physical health and wellness, all while keeping ourselves content and at peace? Let's be real, it doesn't hurt to have some extra support to make it through! I've been privileged to work with amazing humans who simply want to live the best versions of their lives as they possibly can. I've found that most people are looking for someone who will listen openly, non-judgmentally, and empathetically to provide unbiased feedback and support while making it through this thing we call life.

You're the "go to" woman for everyone in your life. On paper, it looks like you've got it all together, but inside you're on a downward spiral. The stress and anxiety of giving, caring, or catering to others has become so overwhelming that it's effecting your mental, physical, & spiritual health. You may not be sure how to regain control of your own body and mind and if you do, you have no idea (or energy) where to begin. It isn't easy for you to reach out for help, but you know something needs to change. Your life depends on it.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
