I would like to start by saying the act of asking for help is often a frightful one especially in a society that can often demonize needing help. I respect the bravery necessary to be willing to open up and be vulnerable about difficult parts of your life and to embrace the desire to grow and heal. Depression, grief, anxiety, and more are all powerful forces and seeking help for those is an admirable act. By sharing a bit about my frame of practice and what my approach to care is; I hope I can help to alleviate some of the anxiety associated with starting your therapy journey.

I am a Gottman Certified (Level 1 & 2) Therapist. I believe that change happens when people are provided with a safe place to better understand their problems and learn how to best move forward. I aim to create a space with openness, curiosity, and thoughtfulness. I see the therapy process as collaborative, I am the professional and my clients are the experts of their lives. I enjoy working with couples, and adults struggling with anxiety, relationship issues, depression, grief, queer-related problems, and life-transitions. I am sex-positive, queer-affirming and trans-affirming, and kink and polyam affirming.

As a licensed psychologist providing therapy to individual adults, 18 years and older, I work from a primarily person-centered, humanistic, and interpersonal orientation in psychotherapy. I focus on clients’ unique strengths, helping them to develop skills that can remove obstacles in their lives. Together, we work through a variety of issues, including depression, excessive worry, social anxiety, interpersonal difficulties, family issues, educational stress, grief, and identity issues.

I bring over 20 years of experience to the Presbyterian Counseling Center. I offer a unique opportunity for people who come to me for counseling to become aware of issues about their relationships with others, and also develop a deeper awareness and appreciation of their world and their place in it...a spiritual search. Many of my clients have struggled with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, struggling to go out into the world, wanting things to be different in their families, and much more. I will work with you to develop new skills to handle any situation that is bothering you.

You don’t have to be alone. Today, your journey to healing begins. I aim to know my client. This allows me to undertand their issues, their needs and their goals. Growing up with disability provided an opportunity for me to rise above discrimination, bullying, racism, oppression, marginalization, anxiety, depression, and face life’s unending challenges. I am fluent and can provide therapy in three languages fluently, English, Ilokano, Tagalog. I am trained in Eastern and Western approaches. I use evidenced based treatment interventions including but not limited to EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness Approach.

Counseling for individuals and couples to overcome outstanding stress in daily life such as ongoing family conflict, resentment, bitterness, loneliness... As a practicing Licensed Mental Health counselor for the past 25 years, I fundamentally believe in an individual's innate capacity to heal, grow and thrive. My practice is strengths-based and focuses on assisting people in recognizing and maximizing their skills and abilities. I am privileged to assist clients in achieving their full potential and capacity to lead creative and fulfilling lives.

Serving as a minister and earning a PhD in Counseling Psychology equipped me to care for people in crises. Working with vulnerable children and their families or caregivers, also proved to be a valuable foundation for clinical care. In a medical academic setting, training residents in the use of spirituality and psychology as they cared for their patients, deepened my own understanding of just how complex clinical issues can become. This also increased my understanding of the level of stress healthcare providers and victims themselves experience during illness.

Everyone has the ability, and the right to live a life of meaning, fulfillment and joy. I strive to assist individuals and families to find their way through the emotional land mines and roadblocks that get in the way of having a good life, or even a "good enough" life. What I bring to help this process is a Master's Degree in Applied Behavior Science with a focus on Systems Counseling (couples and family therapy). I am a licensed mental health counselor with 20 year's experience as well as being a state-approved supervisor for licensure candidates.

Victor L. Steffens, Jr., Ph.D., LMHC, CDP: My interests in psychotherapy and healing are broad and much of my training as a psychotherapist is as well: significant training in Psychodynamic/Psychoanalysis, EMDR, Gestalt Psychotherapy, Psychodrama/Sociometry/Group psychotherapy and a number of different modalities that include a cognitive behavioral perspective. My areas of focus in treatment include: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other anxiety disorders; Drug and Alcohol use disorders including Co-occurring disorders (Dual Diagnosis); Mood disorders (Depression, Bi-Polar), Personality Disorders, and Adjustment Disorders, I primarily treat adults ages 18-75 and adolescents, in addition to couples.

Perhaps we seek a non-judgmental ear that will listen, connection to our personal strengths, or an approach such as EMDR, DBT, CBT, or coping skills. I draw from multiple approaches so that therapy is collaborative and customized to meet your unique needs, hopes, and goals. I am trained in EMDR, an effective approach in healing from trauma. Helping youth of all genders is one of my specialties and I dedicate part of my practice to kids, tweens, and teens. I happily work with adults too. I am a LGBTQIA+ ally and cultural awareness is important to me.

We will not try to make you do what somebody else wants you to do. We start with your goals & find ways to help you develop the necessary skills. We have found that, if a person's individual wishes are not represented in the solution, it will not work in the long run. So there is a strong emphasis on helping each person take responsibility and control over their own happiness. Some things are better handled individually, and some things are better handled with both people in the room. Our unique blend of individual & couples therapy is quite effective.

I love to help people grow!  This has been a central theme in the different chapters of my life. I am a seasoned counselor with over 30 years of experience helping individuals, couples, families and churches. I am a Christian counselor with an MA in Biblical Counseling from Grace Theological Seminary, a BS in Mathematics from the US Air Force Academy, studied Family Systems at Texas Woman’s University. I served as a pilot in the US Air Force, I served as a field representative for the Navigators, a worldwide Christian organization. I served as a staff counselor at Dallas Theological Seminary before coming to the NW in 1990.

She is a leader in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatment and is a clinical consultant for the most preferred TMS system by physicians: Magventure. Her goal is to make TMS available to as many people as possible. Kaylan was the first physician in Washington State to make TMS available to Medicare and Medicaid patients. She continues to work with the National Clinical TMS Society to expand TMS treatments.
