My work is informed by research in the fields of neuroscience, somatic psychology, attachment, psychodynamic theory, and affect regulation.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the central component to successful psychotherapy and I bring special attention to the ongoing process of relational safety. I also believe that self-harmful behaviors always have roots in past experiences of threat and it can be life-changing to discover these connections. I work to help individuals establish goals, explore their experiences, gain self-awareness, develop resources and skills, cultivate self-compassion, and find greater self-empowerment so they can create a more fulfilling and meaningful life for themselves.

We have advanced training in IFS, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Art Therapy, Yoga, and attachment-based interventions.
Cutting edge trauma therapy that uproots symptoms at the source - our clients come to us after years of therapy that didn't get them to where they wanted to go. They're exhausted, fed up, and sometimes feel like they're broken. This is because their treatment only addressed 20% of the brain - and not even the part where mental health symptoms are born. Our trauma treatment specialists use innovative modalities to work directly with the brainstem to renegotiate our nervous system responses. Join our free site membership to receive weekly guided videos and educational resources.

My approach to treatment is positive, strength-based and collaborative. Working in the psychotherapy field for over 30 years has taught me that the wisdom and capacity to heal lies within each of us, but we often need guidance in learning new tools and coping strategies in order to access this self-healing. I offer my clients new methods for allowing the natural ability of the mind and body to heal itself.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
