These approaches include EMDR, IFS, somatic psychotherapies, and in my relational work EFT and The Gottman Method.
I help clients better access their own innate ability to heal and change. I integrate relational, experiential, and trauma informed approaches in my work with teenagers, adults, couples, and families. My work, first and foremost, is collaborative. I take great care to utilize the therapeutic approaches that best respond to my client’s needs, personality, lifestyle, and background. I learned many of the approaches that I lean on most heavily today in response to what clients brought into my office.

I also integrate mindfulness exercises and somatic awareness in sessions.
Our experiences shape us, and it is healing to explore, identify, and understand the formative and relational dynamics that influence us in the present. Together, we can challenge or reaffirm core beliefs, process trauma, work through difficult patterns and triggers, and learn to recognize and safely feel emotions. I believe that the role of the therapist is to provide a safe base camp for an individual to discover a path to their own healing. I want to help you explore and find change through therapeutic connection and relationship.

My approach is warm, respectful, and collaborative, and, although I use an integrative approach attuned to your needs, the theories I’m heavily influenced by are psychodynamic therapy, and somatic therapy.
As a therapist I support client’s growth, self-knowing, and self-empowerment. I work with clients dealing with a history of complex trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues and gender identity exploration. I also work with distressed couples struggling with intimacy and communication. I have an interest in facilitating a more loving relationship within self and between people in relationship.

Some of these modalities include Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy ( somatic work), Parts Work, and relational strengths based therapies.
I work extensively with those who suffer from childhood traumas, anxiety and depression, and low self-worth. My warm, non-judgmental, and personal approach to the issues you bring forward will support you in developing your own resources and resilience in facing life's challenges. My work often integrates spoken dialogue; physical movement; bodily sensations; and mindfulness; to explore the nature of your current obstacles and to find effective ways to move into a new meaningful future.

I utilize somatic or body-based techniques to support you to re-connect with your body and emotional world.
If your relationship experiences haven't been optimal training ground for feeling whole, loveable, and secure in the world, I can help you understand your experiences, heal unresolved pain, and explore new ways to relate to yourself and others. In the safe container of therapy, you can explore your emotions and relationship cycles, and find new ways to connect. We all have the ability to grow beyond old patterns and emotional pain when given a nurturing space. I help couples learn how each partner responds to relationship distress and find safer ways to communicate needs, respond to conflict, and deepen emotional intimacy.

My work is informed by research in the fields of neuroscience, somatic psychology, attachment, psychodynamic theory, and affect regulation.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the central component to successful psychotherapy and I bring special attention to the ongoing process of relational safety. I also believe that self-harmful behaviors always have roots in past experiences of threat and it can be life-changing to discover these connections. I work to help individuals establish goals, explore their experiences, gain self-awareness, develop resources and skills, cultivate self-compassion, and find greater self-empowerment so they can create a more fulfilling and meaningful life for themselves.

Life can be challenging, and the ruptures we experience can leave us physically, mentally, and spiritually disjointed. When fractures occur, your body may hold stress even when your mind does not remember its origin, often leaving a sense of being stuck or dysregulated. Finding words to express these feelings can be difficult, but with the guidance of a therapist, you can expand your understanding and discernment, helping to move you in a new direction.

If you are feeling disconnected, helpless, or stuck, I can assist you in changing the patterns and ways of relating which might be holding you back. By prioritizing your sense of safety, welcoming heavy emotions, and guiding you to meet/heal unknown parts of yourself or your partner, you can gain freedom from the patterns in which you feel trapped. I work with individuals and couples, supporting them to understand the ways they manage stress through retreating inward and shutting down, or turning outwards for connection and validation. From there, I help clients to better understand who they are and what they need.

Accepting new clients - The Center for Connection, Healing & Change focuses on the creation of secure, close, and satisfying relationships- within us and between us. We choose to specialize in relationships because we know the importance of satisfying connections for our mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Services explore the relationship we have with both ourselves and others; how well we can live with emotional ease, know who we are, ask for what we need, be responsive to loved ones, set boundaries, deal with loss, move through stressful experiences, find our purpose, and access resilience in moments of need.

When you look in the mirror, you struggle to love the image reflected back to you. Your body holds painful stories that keep you feeling defective, unloved, and hidden. In an effort to dial back the pain, you've tried critiquing and shaming your body into changing, but it didn't work. And it just left you feeling more broken, alone, and frustrated. You want to learn how to stop the war with your body, heal the parts of you that are hurting, and gain a sense of freedom. What would it be like to be present in your body and begin to create a new relationship with your body that allows you to wholeheartedly flourish and heal?

As a systemic and attachment-based therapist, I believe we are all looking for connection, belonging, and acceptance. However old we are – infant, child, teen, or adult – we need to make sense of what happens to us, inside of us, and in our relationships. Our life experiences shape us in profound ways; our sense of self, and how we manage emotions, respond to stress and connect with others. When life experiences are adverse, our body and brain can make meaning in ways that can cause distress. I help clients connect with their innate ability to change and heal difficult experiences so they can find peace and self-worth at any age.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
