I consider it a privilege to partner with people who are struggling emotionally to help them find effective, long-term solutions to their difficulties. I believe it takes courage to ask for help. That is why I am committed to providing a setting for my clients that is both enriching and safe. I approach each person with warmth, directness and openness to make sure they feel well supported through the change process. I listen with compassion to what my clients are really saying. This is a critical piece in creating the space necessary for important work to be done.

It is rare for individuals to emerge from childhood without experiencing any form of trauma. Even well-meaning parents can pass it down. Everyone deserves to have their experiences heard and understood. My passion involves assisting people to overcome childhood traumas, attain inner peace, and develop healthy adult relationships to decrease trauma in families. I have found that Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) are effective modalities.

Calm Chaos and Flow Into Self-Harmony! Let's face it, life can be really overwhelming sometimes, and you can be pulled in many different directions. Even though you have a passion for the important things in your life, you can still struggle to move forward in your relationships, finances, or your dreams because of the past. You may feel you suffer from depression and struggle to take care of your own basic needs some days or feel deep loneliness, or even suffer from feelings of anxiety and panic which paralyze you. Ultimately, you may feel helpless and that your life is no longer in your control.

Has it been a while since you've felt like yourself? Maybe you've been irritable, overwhelmed, depressed, tired, or anxious. Let's work together to deepen your capacity for true self-compassion, lasting growth, and help you to create meaningful, fulfilling relationships in every phase of life. As Dr. Brené Brown reminds us, we are wired for connection! When we are disconnected from ourselves, it can make connecting with others difficult and unsustainable. I am honored to support my clients as they explore, identify, and courageously express their desires from an increasingly secure place which is grounded in their values.

I believe you can find peace and even happiness even in the darkest of times. When life seems to pile on adversity, trauma, illness, it seems to alter our frame of reference and can lead to depression, anxiety, conflict, and a sense of hopelessness. Therapy is the partnership between two people engaging in a healing process. As you begin to heal, you open up the opportunity to find peace and happiness.

Many people come to my office saying: "Nothing ever changes in my life"; "I'm not good enough"; "I work so hard! Where is my success?"; "Why can't I get along with my partner?"; and, "I feel so alone." In each of these settings, I use a fun-loving, real and powerful approach - using evidence-based therapies and effective interpersonal skills - to validate, accept and support my clients in achieving their goals. I do this by teaching them skills to enjoy their life and relationships, and regulate intense physical, spiritual, mental, and/or emotional thoughts and behaviors.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
