Things have felt "off" for a while. While part of you wants to withdraw, the other part wants to yell. None of this was part of the plan. The excitement, laughter, and connection you once felt are replaced with the complications and stress of life. It seems like any attempt to make changes just prove to make things worse. Any decision feels like the wrong decision. The fear, anxiety, disconnection, resentment, and frustration are overpowering. You're stuck; uncertain about what to do next, and deeply in need of guidance. I provide a safe and non-judgmental space, to be honest with yourself and your partner.

Feeling stuck in life? Struggling with compulsive behavior? Battling sexual addiction and the shame that accompanies it? Suffering from traumatic betrayal in your relationship? These are heavy issues for most therapists to treat, much less trying to navigate them on your own. You deserve support and guidance from a therapist who is not only familiar with these issues, but also has over 15 years of counseling experience working with teens, adults, couples and partners.

Being REAL, therapy is hard and challenging to face all the pain we try to avoid. Finding a therapist is usually the hardest part! Maybe you're struggling with the pain of loneliness or being controlled by overwhelming fears? Are you watching the relationships in your life and not sure why you feel so disconnected and misunderstood? Maybe you have experienced betrayal and trauma? I want you to feel safe to go deeper, stay in the emotions and gain more self awareness. I support faith transitions.

I specialize in helping people going through religious and general life transitions. I personally understand the complexity and sometimes liberation one can feel when embarking on change. My passion is to help people cultivate self-compassion and autonomy to face life’s challenges. I strive to make therapy a place where clients feel safe and empowered to make positive changes. I use elements of Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and person-centered therapy. Because I am person-centered and want to meet people where they are at, I will pull from other modalities if needed.

Hi, my name is Amber Frazier, and I am an Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CMHC) In Davis County, Weber County, and surrounding areas. This journey of life can bring so many ups and downs, and at times, the ups can feel way too few and far in between. And sometimes, life may make you question the worth of yourself, the purpose of your life, and the hamster wheel that you’re running everyday can make you feel like you’re chasing after what can sometimes seems meaningless and empty.

I firmly believe there is a function to our behavior. Sometimes it's obvious, sometimes not. And sometimes, while our behavior made sense at one time, maybe even to the point of saving our life, it is no longer serving us. We're all just doing the best that we can but sometimes the way we're coping leads to highly negative impacts on our body, mind, spirit, & relationships. A wise mentor once shared with me that our capacity for change comes from our ability (and willingness) to reflect. I seek to empower my clients to gain the tools and self-awareness they need in order to cultivate a sense of peace and personal agency.

Therapy is a form of self-preservation. We live in a society where we're constantly pressured to be productive and push through discomfort, but what if you didn't have to? What if you had the ability to slow down and sit with your emotions? We can hold space for the parts of ourselves that want to be seen and validated. We can learn to be still and connected in every moment without avoiding the hardships we've been through. I'd like to help you on your journey to self-preservation.

My ideal client is someone who feels motivated to find empowerment over their own life. My ideal client is someone who wants to use therapy as a space to explore, express, process, brainstorm, feel, connect, and create. Therapy is a resource to them to assist in the ongoing challenges that arise as a result of being human. They want a therapist who will both support them and challenge them. They may have a background of traumatic experiences, they may have an official or unofficial diagnosis of neurodivergence, or they may be someone who simply feels like we would be a good therapist/client match.

The world has felt heavy the past few years and there just seems to be never ending pressures and stress. It’s common to experience anxiety, depression, chronic stress, relationship difficulties and feelings of isolation. Past trauma might also be impacting you more, interfering with your overall mood and day to day life. You are not alone. These experiences, while common, are not something that you have to suffer through. By working through these challenges in therapy, you will feel better again and find balance and re-connection in your life.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
