I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Special Education Teacher in the State of Texas. I hold a Master's degree from Tarleton State University and I'm trained in Trust Based Relational Intervention-TBRI. I have spent over a decade working with children, teens and adults. As your therapist, I’m here to help you reach your therapeutic goals, discover your unique qualities and reclaim your individual potential.

I deeply enjoy working with children and adults who believe a better life is possible, but lack the tools, self-esteem or support needed to overcome old patterns and create a meaningful existence. The kids I support in the playroom learn to communicate, manage their behavior, exhibit confidence, problem solve and positively relate to others. Throughout our therapy, together, you and I will look at the different aspects of your personality, how you were raised, and the messages you received from you parent(s), and how you functioned in the family system. In addition, both of us will work on counseling goals, which will govern the direction of your counseling process.

Charissa specializes in attachment and trauma. She works with families and individual clients across the lifespan- ranging from 3-99+. She uses relational psychodynamic theory, play therapy, EMDR, EFFT (Emotionally Focused Family Therapy), Theraplay, experiential therapies, and talk therapy. Charissa focuses on healing relationships in any life stage. Her passion is to come alongside those who are hurting and struggling to help them find truth, hope, healing, connection, and growth. She is also a Child Specialist for Collaborative Divorce cases. She is also trained in the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) and loves supervising.

My therapeutic philosophy involves utilizing a holistic approach incorporating Gestalt and Adlerian therapies. As a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in athletes, children, adolescents, and young adults, I frequently work with clients experiencing issues related to poor sport or school performance, life changes during adolescence, life transitioning from college to career, parenting issues, sibling relationships, and divorce family transitioning. Topical issues may include low self-esteem , ADHD, transitioning from athletic identity, peer relationships, anger management, self-mutilation, eating disorders, and self-empowerment. My practice focuses on treating children and teens with depression, anxiety, attachment issues, eating disorders, substance abuse, attention deficit hyperactivity, and behavioral disorders. Play therapy is my primary tool to help children cope with issues as they grow and develop. Although the child is my client, I work to provide education and support to parents, as the child's primary support system.
