In our therapy space, I see you as your own person, with your own constellation of identities, needs, and areas for growth. I will prioritize cultivating a place where you can bring your whole self and practice vulnerability in a safe space. Together, in collaboration, we can explore the layers of you along with your past, present, and future to understand how you can move towards becoming the person you want to be, heal the parts of you that hurt, and grow past the adversities you face. In our therapy space, we will explore your emotions, learn about deeper parts of you, and challenge things that no longer serve you.

You've lost your spark and find yourself feeling tired, confused, and even hopeless. As much as you've tried to improve relationships with others and your own well-being, you feel stuck. You are looking for connection, not only to others, but also to yourself. You're looking for compass to guide you to a meaningful life above the struggles. At your core, you want peace.

At Glasshouse Effect Psychotherapy, I specialize in working with individuals and/or couples who have experienced a traumatic or life-altering change. This may be as a result of a medical event or other transformative life circumstances that has led to a shift in household dynamics, impacted relationship roles, and magnified life stressors. Do you often feel lost and unsure about your current position and how you ended up there? Perhaps you've noticed the discomfort arising from certain emotions, physical sensations or thoughts. Our past experiences hold significant influence over our present reality, making us vulnerable to reoccurring patterns of behaviors. While it may be challenging to fully engage in our own experiences and shift our attention inward, my aim is to walk along side you and discover the key elements that bring meaning to your life.

My philosophy begins inside the heart of my clients. As a former elementary teacher, I learned the valuable lesson that my kids will never care what I know or had to teach them until they knew I cared about them. This lesson is applicable in so many instances, and especially when I counsel. I enjoy getting to know every child that I work with. I want to know them as a person, and especially what they enjoy most. That is one reason why I am passionate about play therapy. This technique incorporates what children love most, which is often to play, and in doing so, they are more at ease to have meaningful conversations.

Life provides us with so many experiences, both good and bad, and they all matter. There are times where we find ourselves unhappy or stuck, and unable to move forward toward what we want in life. Scheduling with a professional is a first step, and it's very much worth it. Friends and have family have told you, or you are feeling that it's time, on your own. We are unique, our experiences are our own, and there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to mental health. My approach to therapy is person-centered and integrative. It is important that you feel seen and heard, which often gets lost in today’s society.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
