I use varied clinical modalities including cognitive behavioral techniques, EMDR ( eye movement desensitization reprocessing to minimize trauma memories), TAT (use of acupressure points to decrease anxiety and move forward from troubling experiences) and EFT (emotional freedom technique to calm emotional responses).
Life's demands are sometimes extreme and things can get out of balance. I strive to offer individualized counseling and techniques customized to help you confront challenges and reconsider behavioral patterns and perceptions that may be interferring with your leading a fulfilling life. Difficult situations from the past can also block your developing to your true potential. These can be resolved.

I’ve dedicated my professional career to working with trauma-impacted youth, and their resilience never ceases to amaze me.
“I don’t want to talk about it!” “You wouldn't understand!”...sound familiar? Sometimes your children don’t understand what may be happening either, and communicating that can feel impossible. As a Registered Play Therapist, I help children, teens, and adults ages 3-25 explore, understand, and gain confidence around who they are, how they feel, and what they think. I am a hearing therapist fluent in ASL and also specialize in working with deaf youth using play. Play therapy utilizes a variety of interventions, including playing with toys and miniatures or using more expressive art and movement.

My approach to therapy incorporates both traditional evidence based practices such as (DBT), (CBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and play therapy, as well as alternative strategies including mind-body connections, meditation, breath work, guided imagery, art and music therapy, and journaling.
I believe that successful treatment of children, youth, adults, and families occurs when the treatment approach is client-centered, family-focused, culturally competent, and reliant on evidenced-based treatment modalities. For over 25 years as an LICSW I have worked with a wide range of mental health issues including trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and attachment disorders and how they impact the overall functioning of the client and the family. I have extensive clinical experience working with children and families in a variety of settings including home and school, outpatient clinics, and inpatient adolescent treatment program.

Welcome and thank you for reading further. Since even prior to the Pandemic, it seems life has become much more stressful for children, adolescents and adults but mental health awareness has improved. If you or your child are struggling with anxiety/social anxiety, AD(H)D, OCD, depression, significant loss/bereavement, have experienced trauma, feeling pressure to be perfect, feeling disconnected in your relationships, or in general feeling you've lost perspective of where you want to or are supposed to be at this point in your life, I would like to be of assistance. I have been successfully treating all of these conditions and more.

I specialize in working with those impacted by trauma.
Hello, I’m so glad you’re here! I recognize that beginning therapy and sharing your story with someone new can feel overwhelming. If you are here seeking support for yourself and/or your child, you have already taken a courageous first step. My approach is client-centered and flexible, tailored to best meet your needs. I strive to provide a warm and safe space that you want to return to each week. I pull from various evidence-based modalities and incorporate holistic practices when appropriate. I believe that oftentimes the most effective treatment engages the mind as well as the body, as trauma is so often stored within.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
