I am interested in helping and in understanding. My ideal client would be someone, who is willing to take the necessary time to educate me about him or herself, and who would be willing to reflect on events involved in and outside of the therapy session. Relationships matter. I can provide advice, can problem solve, but prefer to work in a relational, psychodynamic approach, where together we can figure things out. I am an immigrant, who believes everyone can benefit from building a positive therapeutic relationship, where problems can be worked through and their meanings understood. Due to COVID, I also offer Telehealth.

There are moments in life that are difficult, we are distracted by the pain and unable to focus on what we would like to accomplish. Life can be hard and there are experiences that prevent us from getting to our destination. While going through different seasons in life, so many things may hold us back as we try to push forward. Let’s not be distracted by the disapppoitnment, the pain and not allow ourselves to heal from these experiences. As a spouse and father of four young children, I understand how the stresses of daily life can wear us all down. I was drawn into the field of counseling due to my desire to help individuals, who like myself can sometimes feel overwhelmed or alone. For the last 8 years I have enjoyed counseling a diverse group of adults, youth, and families. I draw from a variety of techniques and one of my strengths is being able to adapt my counseling style to each individual I work with. It is this skill that allows me to come up with the best and most effective treatment for every person I counsel.

I found my calling within the community serving as an in-home counselor and also attending at Beth Israel Medical Center as a Mental Health Clinician, since 2011. The psychotherapy work focus around Individual and family needs, using Family System, CBT and Strength-Based approach. I'm also experienced with children trauma, behavior issues, anger management, domestic violence, PTSD, Depression and Anxiety. Another passion of mine centers around Immigration. I offer psychosocial evaluations for immigration cases. I am a native Portuguese/Spanish speaker and have experience working with clients with a history of trauma and abuse.

Deisther Munoz is a Licensed Associate Counselor in the State of New Jersey. She has over 14 years of experience providing therapeutic care to many ages of various cultural backgrounds and a range of clinical diagnoses. These include major depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and co-occurring disorders. Deisther completed her Bachelor of Science in Psychology/Psychiatric Rehabilitation from Kean University and University of Medicine and Dentistry. She also received her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Fairleigh Dickinson. Throughout her career, Deisther has worked in various psychiatric settings.

I had just graduated as a psychologist in my home country when I first came from Brazil to the USA. Once here, I was required to go back to school to be licensed as a mental health Counselor. My ideal client is either a Brazilian who feels more comfortable doing therapy in Portuguese or an American-Brazilian who was born or raised in the USA and feels more comfortable doing therapy in English. Potentially, each one of us carries out a wounded child, stuck in a traumatic childhood experience that negatively affects the current intrapersonal and interpersonal functioning.
