NOW accepting new clients! Many emerging adults struggle during the transition from adolescence to adulthood. They spend their days feeling anxious and unfulfilled, falling back on patterns that used to work for them but which no longer are. If you're struggling with depression, anxiety, identity development or unresolved trauma, there is a path forward. You might feel like you keep trying to make changes in your life, and maybe things will go well for a while, but nothing sticks. You're motivated to change, you just need some extra guidance.

Hi I'm Kenzie! One of the bravest things people can do is to reach out for some help, especially in our child, adolescent and young adult years. Growing up can come with all sorts of pressure, confusion, and judgement, leading to anxiety and other strong emotions. Anxiety may cause us to struggle with communication, lash out in anger, act on impulses, get lost in our feelings, avoid tasks, distract us from success, and disconnect us from support systems.

Life comes with many complex challenges. Sometimes we feel alone or inadequate and experience difficulty being fully authentic with others. Other times, we lack the necessary support, or open ourselves up to being hurt by others. Mental health is strongly influenced by our ability to get our needs met. Psychotherapy is a process where we take a close look at your needs, including the thoughts and feelings you have when you feel stuck. By identifying, fleshing out and contextualizing your reactions, we gain a deeper and nuanced understanding of you. This process will help you find freedom of choice and greater fulfillment.

I love helping individuals and couples achieve their goals and aspirations. I offer a caring, safe, and healing environment that allows clients the opportunity to explore, experience, work through problems, and create solutions that expand their potential for growth and wellness. As a proponent of integrative and holistic therapy that honors the mind-body connection and its impact on well-being, health, and happiness, I attend to the whole person, not just a set of symptoms or problems. I emphasize teaching skills that develop inner resources for successful coping in life. I use a variety of methods, but the method has to meet your needs.

I have been providing individual, couples, and group psychotherapy for over 25 years. Typically, people enter therapy because they are having problems in their relationships. Successful psychotherapy must focus on helping develop more fulfilling and substantial interpersonal connections. Facilitating a client’s capacity to lead a richer and more emotionally balanced life is the objective. The therapeutic relationship is the road traveled, and enables the client to understand the choices they have made, the associated positive and negative consequences, and the freedom to make new, more effective and satisfying life decisions.

I work with individuals, couples, and groups that are faced with a variety of challenges, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, interpersonal conflict and dissatisfaction, infidelity, impulse control, and adjustment issues. I am trained and use ACT principles when working with my clients. ACT is a mindfulness, acceptance, and commitment approach to psychotherapy. Working together, I help clients slow down the thought process so they can thoughtfully respond to difficult thoughts and emotions. This allows you to take value-based behavioral action as opposed to having emotional, automatic reactions.

Sports Performance Therapists

How does sports psychology work?

Sports psychology helps athletes identify and overcome challenges, such as perfectionism or a fear of failure, and improve key mental skills, such as confidence or concentration. By applying principles and techniques from psychology, such as goal-setting, visualization, positive self-talk, and emotion regulation, sports psychologists help athletes improve their performance on the field and their well-being overall.

How long does treatment for a sports-related problem take?

The duration of sports psychology treatment depends on the athlete’s individual challenges, goals, the complexity of the interventions used, and even on the length of the season. A performance anxiety issue may be treated with a short-term treatment, like Cognitive behavioural therapy, while issues such as depression, substance abuse, or severe anxiety may require longer-term treatments.

How effective is treatment for sports performance problems?

Sports psychology has been shown to improve performance and help athletes manage their emotions. Sports psychology can be effective in boosting performance, team dynamics, and injury rehabilitation. Over the past decade, nearly every professional sports team in every major sport has added a sports psychologist to its staff. Many colleges have done the same, and even some high school programs have done the same. Olympic hopefuls may consult with sports psychologists starting in elementary school.

What are the limitations of sports psychology?

Sports psychology may have several limitations. Every athlete is unique and may respond differently to sports psychology treatments. Therapy can help an athlete reach their potential; it can help athletes cope with injury and pain, but it cannot change the physical limitations that may be affecting an athlete’s performance.
