In my practice, I incorporate somatic work to reduce symptoms of trauma, depression and anxiety (individually and in yoga therapy groups).
As a therapist, my goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental, and comfortable environment for my clients. Overall, I use an very authentic, egalitarian, honest, direct, dialogic and relational approach. I focus on the ability of clients to make changes and find freedom in their lives by utilizing their unique potential, accepting personal responsibility, and exploring the meaning in life that they desire. My style stems from my belief that the client's own internal knowledge, strength, and commitment to change is what ultimately holds the power. Relational Gestalt therapy highly informs my clinical work and therapeutic style.

EMDR & Somatic Based therapies are evidence based treatments, which are proven to be highly effective in treating trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression and other emotional difficulties.
Do you suffer from the effects of having bad experiences that have left you feeling traumatized & stuck in the past? There are big "T" (traumatic) events such as sexual assault, rape, child abuse, war, death, major car accidents and then there are what is called the little "t" events such as emotional abuse, neglect, rejection, homophobia (bi-trans), hurt and a series of other "seemingly smaller" but yet a times equally damaging experiences. Over time these events can over time erode your feelings of self esteem, sense of safety and ability to trust in the world.

Life is ever-shifting and full of unexpected changes. Your recent unplanned life event has also brought with it heart ache, pain, and shock- beyond what you ever could have imagined. Your daily rhythm in life is interrupted. You find yourself unable to process or cope with daily life. The past over shadows you- sneaking up and triggering you when you least expect it. Suddenly it's difficult to sleep, you're irritable, avoidant, and living life with little joy or laughter. It's not easy to reach out for help, but you're at a place where you're ready to take that first step to reach out to create a plan to heal and recover.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
