I believe that lasting change begins with a sense of emotional safety and unconditional positive regard in a relationship that allows for examining painful experiences in one’s life.
Openings available- I believe that a collaborative approach and a genuine therapeutic relationship serve as the foundation for immense personal growth and change. I work from a place of warmth and compassion, striving to create a safe and non-judgmental space from which to explore emotions, life patterns, and areas for growth. I specialize in working with college students and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, loss, relationship challenges, and trauma. I have worked in the mental health field for five years, two of those years working in college counseling and the past three years in community mental health.

The foundation of successful psychotherapy is the establishment of a safe, confidential, trusting, and supportive therapeutic relationship.
In a nutshell, my approach to psychotherapy is best described as a collaborative exploration of how our past experiences affect how we experience life in the present. Through better understanding of our own internal and external worlds, greater integration of emotional experience can occur, more positive meaning about ourselves, others, and life in general can be made, and authentic personal growth will result. Not only can distressing symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, and the effects of trauma, be reduced, but more full, satisfying, and resilient lives can be achieved.

In my 15+ years of clinical work, I have developed a style that centers on our therapeutic relationship.
I specialize in supporting young adults, including college students, and older teens (15+). I aim to partner with clients to help them develop a strong sense of self, healthy relationships, appropriate boundaries, and effective coping skills. With so many choices and options in this 21st century, it’s not unusual to feel paralyzed, anxious or depressed, especially during life's transition periods. Suddenly it may feel as if there is no “right choice” or even “a choice”, which can trigger symptoms of depression and anxiety which affect our self-care, relationships and school/professional lives.

Everybody has a story. How we feel about and interpret that story has a significant impact on our quality of life and how we perceive the events that occur around us. In the therapeutic relationship, we’re given the freedom and support to explore the countless memories, experiences, and feelings that make us who we are. From that relationship we gain insight and understanding that allows us to be more intentional in not only how we act, but in how we feel about the important people around us.

Deep respect and honesty in a relationship with me should encourage more respect and honesty in other relationships, including your relationship with yourself.
In addition to weekday hours, I do have weekend sessions that open occasionally. I specialize in meaning and perspective. Seeing the world even in a slightly new way creates opportunities to think, feel, and act differently. I aim to build self-esteem while helping clients with insight, clarity, purpose, and relief. When appropriate I like using humor. Laughing is medicinal. Humor helps makes sense of human life.

It is wonderful to see the relief on couple's faces when they realize it is going to be much easier than they thought, more romance is going to return to their relationship, and sex will be better!.
I like to start by building trust and finding out what goals you want to set for yourself. A safe, encouraging atmosphere with no authoritarian or shaming attitudes is important. Humor is useful with couples, families or teens. Role-plays are a fun way to practice new relationship skills.

I am experienced and comfortable working with a variety of concerns including anxiety, relationship difficulties, trauma, stress, depression and life transitions. Examples of issues that bring clients into therapy with me include anxiety, depression, sexuality and gender concerns, relationship and family issues, eating disorders, addictive behaviors, parenting challenges, and workplace stress.
I work with individuals, couples, and families who are looking for support as they navigate challenges in their lives. I view the issues that prompt people to come to therapy in the context of their relationships with family and significant others and the patterns present in these relationships. I believe that becoming a better observer of how we behave when we are feeling anxious is an important part of the process of making life changes.

Seeking support is courageous and a strength to be cultivated. Throughout life we encounter hardships, losses, and transitions, often uncovering emotions and experiences that are difficult to sit with. Despite obstacles there is an inherent human capacity for learning and growth, and in therapy we explore how to tap into these inner resources and break free of patterns that no longer serve you. Through introspection, curiosity, embodiment, and authenticity, I believe you can come into better relationship with yourself and others.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
