Do you find yourself tired of having other people's worldviews and judgments imposed upon you? Do you feel that no matter how hard you try, nothing you do is ever enough? It is my goal to provide a safe space where clients can truly be themselves without fear of judgment. As a result, I do not believe in a one size fits all approach to therapy. I work to tailor each session to fit the needs of the person/persons in front of me.

Since September of 2016 I've had a private psychotherapy practice in which I help adults from all walks of life get to know themselves better, because you cannot love what you do not know, and love must be present for any other lasting changes to happen. My motto is, "You don't need to be fixed; you just need to be found." Talking to a professional listener gives you a chance to hear out loud what you really think and feel. I've heard countless people surprise themselves. Talking freely provides the kind of clarity that is essential for emotional, psychological, relational, and spiritual growth.

When we've experienced unhealthy relationship dynamics or trauma, it can be hard to know how to trust ourselves and others. This can lead to low self-worth, codependency, repeating unwanted patterns, depression, or relational issues. Safely exploring what is at the core of these issues will allow you to live a more authentic and connected life. I work primarily with women who want to uncover their core beliefs and subconscious patterns in order to consciously create the life they desire. Unburden yourself by learning how to compassionately accept your story, process your emotions, and become the safe, loving place you yearn for.

In my work, I use tools and wisdom from depth psychology, family systems, relational and holistic psychotherapy, and transpersonal psychology.
“The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong at the broken places.” I love this Hemingway quote because it celebrates the spirit of overcoming. It reminds us that we are resilient beings who have an amazing ability to heal. We can recover from painful wounds, thrive after trauma, and even flourish after tragedy. Therapy offers a compassionate place to navigate the difficult challenges and painful experiences of your life. Whether dealing with past trauma or the complexities of the now, therapy is a sacred space where you can heal, find hope, and come to know yourself as “strong at the broken places”.

Currently Accepting New Clients! Many of us go through hardships that negatively impact the way we relate to ourselves, each other, and the world around us. Without the help that we need, we may suffer, become isolated, or lack a sense of belonging and purpose. The heart of our work is relational, and we utilize our relationship, among other dimensions of treatment rooted in attachment and mindfulness, as catalysts for change. Trust and mutual respect set the stage for us to understand and untangle the threads of one’s story and to recover a sense of dignity, ownership, and desire.

Waitlist for new clients
Whether that is the insecurity of this being the right one or the pain of relational betrayal, providing a place that can be an oasis on your journey to security and wholeness is my passion for my clients.
The typical clients I work with are like you and me, usually have successful careers, have a faith orientation, although not always, and have a tremendous longing to find, repair, or revitalize something gone wrong in themselves or in relationship with those closest. They are individuals and couples who are hurting at their core, who want more than just a quick fix, a few techniques, or merely a listening ear. They want answers, real, deep, transforming answers. They realize deep down that it is probably going to take longer than they want or expect. But, they are longing and willing to do whatever it takes to get to a better place

I primarily work with adults who are dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, personality concerns, relational difficulties, and/or trauma.
I approach counseling with compassion and curiosity, with the goal of offering space for others to work through difficult emotions and experiences. I encourage those I work with to show the same curiosity and compassion toward themselves as I know this work can be challenging at times, but also exceptionally rewarding. I utilize psychodynamic techniques in therapy, which are targeted toward helping people understand how their unique history affects their present lives and relationships. Through this insight individuals can find healing and become more equipped to make the lasting changes they want to see in their life.

I offer a variety of tools and modalities to suit unique goals and needs, but my primary modality is relational-cultural therapy.
We’re wired toward a sense of belonging and connection to ourselves and others, but we all have strategies to protect us and adapt to life's challenges. Sometimes these inadvertently impact our mental/emotional health and get in the way of the flow of life, leaving us feeling confused, stuck, or disconnected. Other times, those strategies feel suddenly inadequate in the face of circumstances outside of our control. Giving space to layered, complex thoughts, emotions, and experiences and experimenting with new ways of being with a compassionate, well-trained therapist can support you in navigating a life that feels more like yours.

I support adults navigating a variety of issues, including chronic pain and chronic illness, dissociative conditions, depression and grief, complex trauma, relationship challenges, searches for meaning, and family of origin concerns. Trained in depth psychology, I am an ideal fit for anyone who is engaged in the process of self-understanding, curious about life, and seeking to be known. I believe the potential for deep healing, connection, and revitalization exists within this work. My approach, while holistic, is rooted in relational psychoanalysis and the belief that talking—about questions and issues that matter—leads to change.

Life can be overwhelming sometimes. Relational concerns, unexpected challenges, new or old traumas, and life transitions can all lead to mental health needs. Often we default to pushing through or feeling like we should be able to tackle these things alone, but nothing could be further from the truth. With support from a knowledgable and caring professional who uses evidence-based approaches, you can start the work of feeling like yourself again, or perhaps feeling better than you've ever felt before.

I specialize in attachment, relational, and developmental trauma.
Like you, my clients come to me feeling overwhelmed, afraid, and stuck. You may feel frustrated that you have already had therapy and done a lot of work, yet find yourself in the same patterns that you want to move beyond. You may feel unfulfilled in your relationships and wonder if things can get better. You might even notice a pattern or theme in your relationships that you need to make sense of. You may struggle with a harsh inner critic and have a difficult time building a positive relationship with yourself. You might feel hopeless because you have felt this way for a long time with little relief.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
