I use a relational approach that engages in deep meaningful dialogue to evoke situations where healing can happen.
Everyone has their own path in life and their own meanings to make from their experiences. I see therapy as a place to uncover connections between past and present relationships, emotions and experiences and discover what is authentic and true for you. Together, we will explore your desires, existential questions, and patterns of relationships as a way to connect more deeply with yourself. For couples, we will work on communicating honestly and explore the defenses and dynamics that impact your ability to work together. For those who are interested in outdoor therapy, I offer walk and talk therapy on local trails.

I treat a variety of conditions, including depression, anxiety, relational concerns, mood disorders, stress, and identity-related issues.
I provide psychotherapy to adults by helping them heal through awareness and self-knowledge. I listen to understand the individual and help facilitate a trusting therapeutic relationship. Through listening and understanding I can help to bring positive change in your life. I encourage the exploration of the conscious and unconscious mind to help identify core causes of your issue. By identifying the core causes of your issue with the help of a trusting therapeutic relationship we can replace unhealthy beliefs and behaviors with healthy ones.

I collaborate with my clients to work on what is important to them, integrating my knowledge and clinical experience to guide the process. I believe that everyone has problems at times, and that these can prevent us from having the relationships and lives we desire. I see therapy as a dialogue and am active and direct in the process. I will partner with you to change old patterns and to draw out your strengths. Most people say I have a genuine, down to earth manner which makes it possible to feel safe and speak openly.

I am passionate about people and the stories that make up our lives. I often lead with the question: "What is your story?" And follow with, "What do you want your story to become?" I have spent much of my life examining the roles and symbols embedded in our everyday life, using creativity, interpersonal techniques, to inform powerful personal change. I have over 20 years experience working in therapeutic settings, cultivating space to honor the healing process and narratives in all of us. My compass is driven by compassion, curiosity, creativity and always some laughter. I will hold the shadows but also make room for the light.

Everybody has a story. How we feel about and interpret that story has a significant impact on our quality of life and how we perceive the events that occur around us. In the therapeutic relationship, we’re given the freedom and support to explore the countless memories, experiences, and feelings that make us who we are. From that relationship we gain insight and understanding that allows us to be more intentional in not only how we act, but in how we feel about the important people around us.

Are you having difficulty holding boundaries? Does people-pleasing leave you feeling exhausted and resentful, wondering why you give more to others than you receive? You may be tired of feeling burnt out, disconnected in your relationships or taken for granted. You might not even remember a time things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to unpack the early life experiences that shaped some of these patterns, make your own wellbeing a priority and get your needs met for a change. Most of all, you’re ready to feel calmer, more rested and more connected to those you love.

My approach to therapy is integrative and I practice from a humanistic lens, drawing from multiple theoretical modalities - mainly relational and psychodynamic.
I approach the therapeutic relationship with authenticity, warmth, humor and non-judgment while meeting clients where they are. My approach is collaborative and curious, placing you as the expert of your own life while offering insight, compassionate support and holding space for vulnerability throughout the healing process. I believe all struggles in life to be valid and worthy of acceptance and empathy and I believe in the human capacity for resiliency. I place strong emphasis on building a trusting and safe client-therapist alliance and I strive to empower my clients while working together toward goals and desired life changes.

Central to my work as a therapist is helping people make necessary, life affirming changes, both personally and in their relationships. Living comes with depressions, anxieties, unexpected betrayals, work crises, illnesses, self-defeating behaviors and personal shames. At some time or another, we've all felt how hard "getting by" can be, how alone and overwhelming. Of equal importance, however, is the healthy courage it takes to ask for help. Toward that end therapy offers people an opportunity to feel deeply known, a chance to move forward with greater self-awareness, confidence, and self-acceptance.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
