Have you experienced neglect, abuse, or traumatic events? Abuse is often hard to understand as victims tend to be authentic, honest, and hopeful. The effects of abuse and trauma bring multiple effects as it creates real changes in the way the brain processes - you are not alone. Has navigating medical answers or conditions created many emotions or even a loss of identity? Has someone you love been struggling with medical conditions? Have medical conditions brought loss to you or your family through the loss of a loved one, divorce, disability, stillborn, or miscarriage?

I offer confidential, comfortable, and private counseling services in an accessible location with plenty of parking. I specialize in family, couples, and teen/children's counseling. I also see many adults for individual counseling on an outpatient basis. I have been helping people dealing with family conflict, divorce, and parenting issues for years and enjoy helping kids of all ages gain a healthier and happier home environment. Working with teenagers and children is a passion in which I use many Brief Solution, Experiential, and Play Therapy techniques to help them. Call me today and we can talk about services provided.

As a therapist, I am most excited to see clients motivated to explore their unknown strengths, widen their horizons, increase their abilities to make informed decisions and lead a life of meaning as they define it. Everyone I have worked with brings to therapy a foundation upon which to grow. Regardless of the problem, an enhanced sense of self is possible. Instilling hope of something better in life is one of my greatest motivations, and assisting others in achieving their goals drew me to this profession.

My ideal client would be someone who is committed to their healing journey and willing to reach their mental health and personal goals. My clients would be ones who may have anxiety, depression, substance use/abuse issues, and crises.

I have been practicing for 30+ years and truly enjoy doing psychotherapy and being a lifelong student of the craft of psychotherapy. It is a privilege to meet with people, to hear each person's unique story, and to try to help each person reach their goals. I strive to create an environment of trust and safety in which each person is able to hear and make use of my observations and questions, knowing they are not being criticized or judged.

Not accepting new clients
No New Patients. I enjoy working with a variety of people and have extensive experience assisting individuals experiencing trauma related disorders, depression, anxiety, and life transitions. I work with adults of all races, cultures, sexual orientations, gender orientations, and religions. I assist clients to explore ways stresses, traumas, and significant relationships have influenced them so that they may lead a more full, satisfying life. I'm an integrative therapist and am most influenced by EMDR, psychodynamic theories, and dialectical behavioral treatment. I collaborate with you to develop and pursue goals along the way.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
