We have therapists that specialize in work with people in recovery, the LGBTQ+ community, and adolescents.
While other programs claim to be 'trauma-informed', our practice revolves entirely around trauma therapy. This is what we do best. The Phoenix Center for Experiential Trauma Therapy is named after the legendary figure of the phoenix that dies and is reborn from its own ashes – it is a symbol of transformation and resilience. The phenomenon of growing after experiencing trauma has been labeled “Post-Traumatic Growth”. This is exactly what we help our clients cultivate in their lives. While we cannot change the past, we can change how past experiences live within us Low-Cost Options Available with Our Graduate Interns

I practice through an anti-oppression framework that seeks to be trans and queer affirming, anti-racist, and espouse the principles of Health at Every Size.
Are you ready to work with a therapist who gets you? I work with preteens, teenagers, and young adults. We focus on issues like identity formation, trauma, body image, and disordered eating, and they get to bring their authentic selves to the therapy space. As a queer person, I understand how important it is to feel safe in bringing your whole self to therapy. I'm here to listen to your story and let you be the expert on your life.

I also have significant experience and training in working with queer clients.
Having ADHD can often feel like a daily battle with yourself to accomplish tasks, maintain relationships, and attend to your own needs, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Learning how to work with rather than against your ADHD can be a transformative experience, and I would be honored to work with you through this journey. Together in therapy, we can work to tackle the challenges of ADHD while also bolstering your natural strengths and coming into and honoring your most authentic self. I work to create a therapeutic space that is constructive, creative, and above all compassionate. I can’t wait to welcome you in.

- - - I am not able to accept any new clients as of January 2022 - - - I take an active, flexible, problem-solving approach that is typically grounded in cognitive-behavioral methods, although I also incorporate mindfulness and relaxation techniques. The development of a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship is very important to me; I’m down-to-earth, practical, and have a dry sense of humor, and these traits help my clients feel at ease when they’re talking with me. If you're ready to begin the hard work of therapy, please reach out to make an appointment.

Hi! I’m Ashley, and my mission is to help individuals and couples navigate life’s difficulties to become the best possible versions of themselves. Both my clinical and personal experiences have taught me that, though we cannot control everything, we can control our behaviors, perspectives, beliefs, actions, and HEALING. I believe you will experience me as genuine, curious, and direct. Together, we will challenge old assumptions and create new ways of approaching problems, relationships, and life in general. The work we do in therapy is serious and it is hard; that said, it's tremendously rewarding, and in our work, we will likely find ourselves laughing a lot. Here, you will experience acceptance and connection that I believe will make the relationships in your life easier to navigate and more rewarding.

I am a licensed psychologist with over twenty years of experience providing individual and couples psychotherapy. My main focus is relationships (with yourself as a main target) and a lot of the work I do in my practice is about restoring the flow of love that might have gotten stuck due to childhood wounds, individual or collective trauma. My goal is to help to bring up relevant old relational patterns and unconscious stories we somehow live by to the day light so a new story and life energy can start unfolding. I track emotion, body, history and what happens in here and now of each session closely as we work together.

We’re in an age of overwhelm. I help clients develop healthy self-compassion as they balance responsibilities and relationships with the cumulative stress of unresolved traumas and/or the current economic, political, and environmental crises. When we explore patterns in our boundaries, families, and relationships, we can reveal deeper truths and unmet needs, and are empowered to make changes that promote safety and reduce the feeling of being stuck. It is important that you feel heard by a professional who supports you. Third Culture Kids, nomads, fish out of water, and micro-minorities welcome. We will create context.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
