My specializations are working with adolescents, young adults, and adults struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues. Common struggles I work with are Mood Disorders/Depression/Anxiety/ADHD, etc. I am also strong in helping students having school challenges, whether they are mental health or academic performance-related and pull from my previous experience as a Teacher of 8 years. Another area that I have a multitude of experience with is helping individuals cope with the difficulties that are certain to accompany a Traumatic Brain injury.

I have worked with problematic sexual behaviors and physician boundary issues for over a decade and have a passion for helping clients find answers. Often the behavior is not the issue but the client's reaction to the behavior or there are underlying reasons for why they are engaging in maladaptive behaviors. Each client is unique and the issue is often about unmet needs for nurturing, control, power, love and connection. Helping clients find the answers, their resiliency, and improve their healthy sexuality is an amazing part of the work that we do together.

I have extensive experience and interest in working with individuals looking to recover from the effects of growing up in alcoholic or other dysfunctional households. Adversity and traumatic experiences are common. Strategies to reduce the impacts can include numbing, detaching, becoming depressed/hopeless, compulsiveness (i.e. acting without thinking), over-functioning, over-responsibility, avoidance, isolation, perfectionism, procrastination, hypervigilance and many others. All of which are protective and helpful when needed but often lead to inner conflict and unintended blowback including feelings of shame and worthlessness.

My typical client is a child, teen or adult struggling with depression/anxiety, ADHD, OCD or ASD. Problems adapting to school, work, marriage, relationships, and executive functioning bring havoc and heartache to life. Underachievement, activation troubles, damaged self-esteem, or issues navigating priorities are the norm for the population I help every day. Clients look to me for coaching improved decision making, optimizing work/school performance, and better overall psychological health. I offer strategic tools and templates to fulfill these goals by identifying problem sources and collaborating upon action steps for solutions

Having extensive experience, I use empirically supported therapies, and have treated a wide range of ages as well as the most serious disorders. It is my belief that salient therapy treats a client in 3 different directions: top-down (spiritual dimension), inside out (healing of memories), and outside-in (Cognitive-Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy). After a thorough assessment, I would identify with my client, determine problems on which to work, set appropriate goals, and determine the correct therapeutic intervention(s) to be used. Meeting those goals would be a therapeutic benchmark throughout the therapy.
