Change can be difficult. At times, not changing can be harder. Deciding to explore therapy is a wonderful first step. I can help you set and accomplish goals to determine how to move from that difficult place, to where you want to be.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my profile. I have been licensed as a psychologist since 1986, and have been in private practice here in my native Bucks County for over 30 years. I work with adolescents, adults, and seniors, addressing a variety of difficulties, including: depression; family & relationship conflicts; social & school adjustment; grief & loss; and life changes. As you may have noticed by my photo, I am assisted by a therapy dog. Lucky Duck, who is pictured with me, is no longer with us. However, HoneyBunny, my rescuShih Tsu mix, will escort you into my office and keep you company during your sessions.

As a trauma-informed counselor, I clinically treat the client's symptoms with a talk-and-body therapeutic approach. I teach my clients coping strategies that are tweaked to be adaptive to the ASD/ADHD child/adult's neurodiversity in addition to the neurotypical populations' symptoms/sensory intrusions that are known or unknown reason(s) for the client's behavior(s) like anxiety mismanagement or a spontaneous violent outburst that at any age often do self-sabotage one's hoped for a good outcome(s).

I love being a counselor and a teacher. I like helping people figure out what they want from their life and how to make the changes and tap into the resources to make that happen. To learn how to create balance in every area. One of my favorite expressions is people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. The reason I became a counselor is to help make a difference one person at a time.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
