Are you struggling with a mental health issue? Do you lack motivation, focus, and direction? Are you overwhelmed with life stressors and emotions? Are you living in the past, stuck, and unable to move forward? Do you use alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex or gaming to “cope” with life stressors? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you would benefit from counseling with an objective, nonjudgmental, and supportive therapist. Let me be that therapist for you. Life can be hard, stressful, and challenging but you do not have to navigate this trip alone.

Our lives today are busy and often overwhelming. Struggling with mental health symptoms complicates the process of managing our daily routines and responsibilities, and frequently people struggle in silence, due to fears of being judged. Mental health issues do not have to keep people from achieving their personal goals and living their best lives. Just as people with substance use struggles speak about their recovery from their addictions, people with mental health challenges can do the same. Recovery is real and achievable, and I am honored to come along your journey toward health and overall wellness.

“Love shouldn’t hurt.” As a speaker for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, I resonate with and seek to help women, men and children of all ages through any situation present or past which has violated their human rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Depression, anxiety, grief, and addiction (substances, sex, etc) are some of the most prevalent issues across the world today. These are clients I’d like to work with. It is not an easy road, but the rewards are great when we stick with it, and having someone to support you and talk to along the way is sometimes all the encouragement you need.

Are you at a loss to understand yourself or others? Maybe you don't understand why you are depressed, anxious, prone to swings of mood, or having difficulty experiencing satisfying relationships. Do you want to suffer less, cope better, like yourself and life more? I listen, care, and help you understand how your experiences, and your thoughts related to those experiences, relate to your suffering (depression, anxiety, PTSD, mood swings, relationship difficulties, poor self-esteem, anger, shame). We collaborate to ID what you want to change in your life and how to achieve that, while accepting what can't be changed or controlled.

Is your child or teenager experiencing low mood, lack of motivation, loss of interest, poor self-esteem, irritability, sleep issues, anger problems, and/or difficulty managing their emotions and behavior? They aren't alone. We all want our children to be happy, but there are a lot of things that get in the way of that for our youth. Together, we will work on ways to recognize their feelings, identify their negative thought patterns, and develop healthy coping skills to manage strong feelings. Your child will feel heard and supported while developing the tools to live a happier, less stressful life.

I have had experience working with clients on a variety of issues including anger, anxiety, trauma, OCD and eating disorders.
Are you trying to figure out how to make changes in yourself and in your life? Counseling is just a series of conversations with 3 basic parts. First is for you to identify what you want to change, then you will explore ways to make those changes. Finally there is the work of challenging some of your thinking habits and how to try new strategies. This can can lead to changes in your behavior. Rigid or inaccurate thoughts can limit your understanding of other people as well as yourself. As you progress you will likely feel much more hopeful and positive. These new skills can be used daily. This is you taking charge of your life!

On life’s journey we are constantly growing and developing. Whether young or old, life is a journey that usually entail efforts of trying to understand divine will. We often question our purpose in life, especially during challenging times. To keep it real, in many cultures/communities, such as the African American (Black) community, we might have been taught to either “pray” about our situations, issues, and emotions or “suck it up and keep it moving.” This can create negative energies such as anxiety, depression, anger, guilt, and other mental health issues that need to be addressed in a healthy manner.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
