My practice, Triska Psychotherapy, focuses on anxiety and related disorders, including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and hoarding, especially in queer and trans clients and people experiencing family estrangement.
I'm an existential psychotherapist who uses tools like ERP and ACT to address avoidance and inhibition caused by negative developmental experiences. In our sessions, you'll learn to gently approach fearful situations and build a sense of safety. You'll also learn to approach difficult emotions, thoughts, and memories safely at your own pace.

While I work with a wide range of people, my specialty is treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and related conditions, including Hoarding, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), skin-picking, hair-pulling (Trichotillomania), and Health Anxiety.
I also specialize in Panic Attacks, Phobias, and other forms of Anxiety. Many problems can't be addressed in an office setting alone, so depending on what we are working on, we may leave the office during our sessions, and I am often available to make home visits.

The people I work with rarely fit the categories the world assigns them. Many are neurodivergent, LGBTQ, people of colour, or living between cultures and inheritances. They are curious, introspective, and worn by rigid hierarchies. My work is relational and grounded in critical theory, drawing on psychodynamic, somatic, and trauma-informed traditions. Clients come to me for candour. Realness begets realness. I track insight into the body and into the present moment, and I name what moves in the space between us when a client can hold it with me.

Especially for some of the most successful among us, we can hold ourselves to the highest standards of performance in all areas. Sometimes we may feel that we're supposed to have all the answers to the challenges life throws our way, even when that isn’t always possible. An achievement focus can come at the expense of other areas of our lives. I see therapy as a collaborative experience. I work with individuals and couples to help unlock what holds them back to gain an understanding of how our histories shape our present, while building a foundation of skills in the here-in-now to promote healing and a future that is self-defined.

Hoarding Therapists
What is the most effective treatment for hoarding?
Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) has been well-studied in the treatment of hoarding. This type of therapy includes changing beliefs surrounding possessions, as well as learning how to discard items and reduce acquisitions. The hoarder may also gain much-needed organizational skills. Another useful therapy may be compassion-focused therapy, which can address emotion regulation and negative self-perception.

How long does therapy for hoarding take?
Although treatment can vary, most people demonstrate improvement after 23 sessions, with some showing improvement after just a few sessions. Researchers have developed a 26-session cognitive behavioral program. People who hoard may need “maintenance” sessions over the years if the problem arises repeatedly.

Are there medications for hoarding?
The more commonly-prescribed medications for hoarding are including antidepressants, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). This can include drugs such as venlafaxine and paroxetine. And because hoarding disorder is related to obsessive-compulsive disorder, medications for OCD, such as clomipramine, may be effective for hoarding as well.

Can hoarding come back after treatment?
Hoarding is a chronic disorder and it can last throughout an individual’s lifetime. Regularly checking in with a psychotherapist can help manage symptoms long-term. A good therapist will help the person learn needed skills including decision-making, organization, and stress reduction. The patient will gain a better perspective and the need to cling to useless items will lessen.
