Using a person-centered approach to therapy, my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating by providing individualized services based upon your specific needs and concerns. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to understand and resolve the current challenges in your life. By engaging in therapeutic approaches and techniques together, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

Working on bettering ourselves is an ever-changing process, where the journey can be beautiful if we allow it to be. My approach as a therapist is to assist clients in gaining insight, change negative patterns and behaviors, and desire to obtain self-fulfillment.

Life is good, but it sometimes can be more difficult than it has to be. If you are feeling like it is more challenging to get through the day due to anxiety, depression, grief, or poor relationships with yourself or others....let me help. I am fortunate to work with amazing people who have found themselves dealing with tough life circumstances/mental health issues and have come to me to find a better path and have succeeded. It is my goal to individualize treatment so that joy in life and a positive mindset can be achieved.

I approach my work with sensitivity and in response to the needs presented by the individual or family. My professional work demonstrates an ability to respect the individual needs of others when, at times, life presents expected or unexpected challenges. I believe a non-judgemental approach in practice helps to support individuals as they take a new approach to old and new challenges. Margaret is a certified training and supervising analyst and is on the faculty of The Institute for Psychoanalytic Studies where she teaches several courses in both the child and adult training programs. Margaret is an author.

Often when we struggle, we are having a normal reaction to abnormal circumstances. The world we live in can feel unsupportive of just how hard it is to be a human. I feel it is a privilege to help my clients realize their innate wholeness and courage and I approach the therapy relationship with a genuine, compassionate, and non-judgmental style. I work best with clients who are struggling with the impact of trauma, emotion dysregulation, dissociation, self injury, depression, anxiety, and issues specific to the LGBTQIA+ population.

I truly believe that building a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients is the recipe for success in the counseling process. This type of relationship that I help foster with my clients as I use evidence-based practices creates the catalyst for positive change. I also think it is important to meet people where they are at and tailor the approach to the needs of the place they are in. I am ready to roll up my sleeves and work together with my clients as a team to overcome the many challenges that life puts in our path.

Hello! I'm Cassie, a licensed clinical social worker, with a decade of experience in mental health. My professional path has led me through various treatment settings, working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and facing a myriad of challenges. My objective isn't to "fix" people, but rather to support them in living the lives they desire, however that may look for them. I aim to empower individuals to recognize their own strength and autonomy, making choices aligned with their values. My mission is to assist clients in transitioning from merely surviving to truly thriving in their lives.

I am a therapist who believes strongly that talk therapy sometimes just isn't enough. Sometimes when a person experiences difficulties in life, their defenses can often get in the way. This is especially true when you are a child, have experienced trauma, or struggle with Eating Disorders. Sandplay therapy and other approaches can help break-down those barriers and promote healing.

Transgender Therapists

As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?

A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.

What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?

Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.

How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?

An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?

Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
