An important element I bring into counseling is a holistic understanding of you and your system. Through this, we discover dynamic ways to affect the issues in which you desire to see positive and enduring change. Furthermore, I practice a balanced approach. One side of counseling is more hands-on advising that involves practical and effective life skills. On the other side, counselors are neutral collaborators that facilitate self-exploration, depth, and healing. Through scholarly research and personal practice, I strive to bring both elements into my counseling relationships to achieve quick and lasting systemic change.

I believe that you bring wisdom to the places of disorientation in your life. As a spiritually-integrated psychotherapist, my role is to help you nurture the conditions where you can reconnect with this wisdom. The primary condition for this reconnection is an authentic relationship with another person. At its best, therapy can help deepen self-awareness, awaken self-compassion, and broaden your capacity for meaningful relationships. My practice resonates for contemplative persons seeking an active partner in the work of reconnection and re-creation.

Life is challenging, sometimes it can feel like we aren’t made for the pace that is asked of us in today’s world. The result can feel like disconnect, overwhelm, or even depression and anxiety. Therapy can help. It is clear to me in my work, and in my own life, that once we start paying attention to our pain, we can do something about it. Having a guide in that process can make it simpler and more effective. Everyone is unique and as individuals what we need can take time to uncover and incorporate into our daily lives.

I specialize in helping young adults (18 to 32 yrs) gain traction in their lives. These are people who commonly struggle with depression and/or anxiety, many of whom turn to substances (i.e., drugs and alcohol) to self-medicate. Many of my clients have some sort of trauma history underlying their current struggles as well. They come to me feeling as though their lives have shrunk in scope and power, and I often hear things like "I'm just spinning my wheels," or "I just feel paralyzed" from new clients. It's from these places of immobility that we work together to build vital, values-driven lives.

I’m at my best working with issues of trauma, depression and anxiety, unhelpful and addictive behaviors, family issues, parenting, and life transitions.
To move through suffering and risk hope of something better takes such courage. My work finds its foundation in a deep respect for that choice. That welcoming manifests in my curiosity, care, and genuine empathy for your experience. My grounded presence, calm yet playful demeanor, clarity of thought, and feedback-informed approach have helped folks safely share their inner world. That safety can be deeply healing, and through it I've witnessed my clients move from simply surviving to living a life of vitality and meaning.

I treat anxiety in its many forms, such as panic attacks, OCD, loss and grief, PTSD, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, existential questions, midlife issues, adjustment disorder, and good old-fashioned stuck-ness.
Real change is possible. Successful therapy explores human life in its fullest sense - what we do, what we think, and what we feel - while being grounded in the deep experience of living in a human body. My primary therapeutic framework is called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which provides a rich, evidence-based, blend of mindful and somatic interventions, along with a strong cognitive and behavioral orientation. Together, my clients and I examine our deepest values, and how those values are expressed in how we live each day. Our lives are not problems to be solved - they are opportunities to flourish.

I specialize in supporting individuals with anxiety, depression and experiencing uncertainty from a life transition. We can collaborate to help you develop a greater sense of self and gain the confidence to be who you are. We can work together to identify the unhelpful patterns you find yourself in. It can be really frustrating to feel like we keep making the same mistake. Identifying these patterns can help you improve your mood, mitigate anxiety, and strengthen relationships. My approach leans psychodynamic with influence from Jungian psychology. But above all, I want to get to know you and what it would look like to heal.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
